Thank you for the link. I'm glad Pat has started putting those great old matches on youtube.
It's a very good match but Grady's complaining about bad rolls etc. all the time does not make him look good.
I like their other match from SRO XII (December 1990) which also has a voice-over review by Grady and Billy. Grady whitewashes Buddy 11-0. I don't think I know of any other recorded race to 11 where Buddy got bageled. This is not a one-off and shows how strong a 9-ball player Grady really was. Everyone knows him for his one-pocket titles but not many people know that he was a great 9-ball player to boot. He manhandled every single player on his way to the 1989 World 9-ball finals and was on the hill to win it all but Nick was allowed back to the table and the rest is history. This is one of the greatest matches you will ever see.

There are some who think that straight pool was Grady's best game. He was certainly better at straight pool than 9 ball

What I liked most was, even though they showed some emotion during the match, they both showed total respect for each other in the booth. You could really tell they were great friends. I also learned Buddy had a kid (who sharks him during the set!).
big kudos to him for providing us with this when there is no live pool to be seen
it was a different game then for sure. many of the safeties would be jumped in today and many of the scratches wouldn't be scratches on tighter tables. like when grady scratches in the 20th rack i thought not even that gc bucket would eat it but it did.

Accu-Stats stopped carrying the 1990 SRO match quite a while ago. I hope Pat still has a master tape and will digitise it and release the match for everyone to enjoy

You are right, he played pretty sporty straight pool. I remember him manhandling Dallas West in The 1995 Maine Event (Grady ran 102 and out). His match against Pat Fleming in Cleveland was a sight to behold, with Pat running 101 and Grady coming back to beat him.
However, for the life of me, I cannot recall any of his major successes in straight pool.
Any information is gratefully received.
