Players Cues ?

Hi everyone, and thank you in advance for any input.

I'm looking for a bar-beater. Nothing fancy, just something I can forget about in the wife's car until we end up at a house party with a pool table .

Whenever we DO end up at one of her friend's homes, they end up having a table. But the cues have either slide on tips , screw on tips , or the shape of the tips are the thickness and flatness of a nickel :banghead:.

A couple of halfway decent playing league guys have Players cues. They swear by them .
And the price is right for something that will be subjected to New York winters.

Any thoughts ??

For what they cost you can't go wrong. One guy I know sold his customs and swears by his new Players cue. However, if I wanted a cheap cue I'd check out Schmelke. They can be custom ordered, made in USA, and they're cheap.

Here's another vote for a Schmelke. Their Sneaky Pete can be had for $99 to about 150 for the real nice wood. They also make the spliced blanks for a good number of the "custom" builders. Think about it. If they have the talent and equipment to cut and glue up spliced blanks that are going into the high priced cues you can be sure they know how to turn their own blanks down.

You can order any weight, diameter or joint. All for the same price.

But... If your keeping it in the trunk of a car you might as well buy a $15 special from Sears.

I second the Schmelke vote. Better than Players - IMO.
Regardless, don't leave it in the car:mad:

cuetec

I would purchse a Cuetec Cue, you can throw it in the trunk and it keeps on playing. They can be had very cheap and don't play bad either.

i have bought atleast 15 palmers (repros) on ebay , have sold most to the lg players around here. i kept a few and these's cues play great .
i usually keep it in the truck all the time for the same reason and i have not had any problems with warpage. 5/16-14 pilioted shaft.
can be bought between 50 and 75 bucks.

What are you looking to spend? That will narrow it down tremendously and there are always good deals on decent name brand cues if you get one on the secondary market. Sometimes Pawn shops are a good place to look but occasionaly they think a $150 used Meucci is worth retail price. I once took a $26 Wal Mart graphite cue into a pawn shop and traded it for a cue they were asking $125 for.....

You are right about these Palmers, I've owned several and people bought them off me right after they tried them. Very good (the inlay ones) for the money.

I believe the pin is 5/16-18. ;)

I heard Players is a budget version of Lucasi. Like how Squier/Epiphone are budget guitars to Fender/Gibson respectively or Poison to Predator. Though I can't tell you how well play since I've never shot with a Players.

Also even though graphite cues don't warp in the car trunk, Players cues have a lifetime warp warranty!
