My best cue is a base level "Players" cue. It was given to me by a friend, so I am not sure how much he paid for it. As far as playability goes, how does this type of cue compare to a solid mid-priced production cue like a schon?

players

whose "players" cue is it. as far as difference it depends on who's it is compared to a schon. main difference willl be price.up or down. won't for sure hit better or worse as thats opinion. custom will hold the value probably but as far as playability, up to you. if yours now plays how you like it no need to ever purchase another cue in life!!lol. we all know thats not true, good luck.

I have a Players shaft with a phenolic tip/ferrule combination added to it by a competent cue master. I used it for breaking until I fell in love with a Sledgehammer. Make me an offer.

In my opinion, most of a cues playability comes from the shaft, ferrule, and tip. The quality of wood in a players cue is not up to most domestic cuemakers standards(players is an asian import). But they can play just fine. I would recommend a ferrule change and a nice tip, and you will have a good playing cue.
Players cues arent the best, the arent the worst. I would rank them in the lower end of middle of the road.

if it's brand name is Players, i sell a few of these out of my bike shop, i have the Players Diamond Series and they come with a free soft case, i sale them for 125.00 they are not a bad playing cue at all, in fact the wall rack in my gameroom is full of them, i keep some out there for company, alot of younger kids here buy them as a good starter cue and never really had any complaints.

When I need another throw-away sneaky pete, I usually go with Players because in my opinion they're the best-playing cue for around $100 (SPs usually can be had for as little as $40). They deflect a little more than others, but the playability, feel and balance are actually pretty good.

I've got a Players cue with a pressed Elk Masters tip that I use exclusively for bars. I've been playing with it for 5 years, now. It's not the best hitting cue I've ever played with and not the worst. It's been pretty durable. I think if I were going to get a cue in the same class again, I'd go with Action. In fact, I recently ordered one of their Elite series with a wood on wood joint to replace the old Players. :)

I bought a 'players cue' in a pawnshop for 20>25 bucks just because it had a good tip on it and I was thinking it would be fun to scrape off the decals and see what was underneath. Suprise! surprise! After scraping off the decals/finish with a paint scraper there was some nice looking wood. It hits balls just fine and I don't worry about leaving it lay around. I can go to the bathroom with just my body. This cue is just like a timex watch to me, it tells good time and I don't care if I lose it....I know this a profane sacrilege but that is just how I roll......hehehe
