Players sneaky pete - what do you guys think?

One last cue I'd like you guys to look at it before I make my BIG (150.00 or less) purchase :D

http://www.ozonebilliards.com/plcuesnpesp.html

I'm pretty used to a Players, the only cue I ever really played with, only thing I could afford in my teens. (an aside: I got ripped off. Since, I knew little about equipment, a cue was good to me if it felt good. And my old Players felt good, felt so good the guy charged me 250.00. Hey, much cheaper than the Meuccis.) If I didn't quit pool in my early 20s, when I had money, I would've gone up a few levels to a custom by now.

I dig this cue's look. Classic. And I know a lot of equipment junkies endorse Players--a good hit for the cost.

So, it's between this one and a Schmelke.

Those aren't bad... I use one to play in bars that are in bad areas...

The Schmelke may still be your best bet though.

I'm ordering that very same cue this week. I tried a couple Players along with a couple Fury cues this last weekend and I liked the Players much better. It'll serve me well while I get back into the game and try to make up my mind on what I want in a custom.

I don't think we've made a bad choice.

I personally would buy a low end McDermott over that Cue. Because of WARRANTY.

If I'm not mistaken, I believe it was BPG24's post in another thread that steered me to the Players SP's.

Thanks bro.

I've tried several McD's, but never could find one I really liked enough to buy.

hmmm, maybe it's me thats warped!!!!!

Considering it. I don't really like the style of the cheap McDs, because they're all stained, and the ones that aren't don't have wrap, which I prefer. This one is probably my 3rd choice:

It's stained, but at least it's a classic color.

Revision: Players, Schmelke, or the above McD?

Gee Whiz ...

You are only talking $56 on that first cue, how can you go wrong? If it doesn't break, you could always get $40 out of it, so you are really just
talking about $16 investment.

It looks nice for money, especially for $56. You got free shipping, and get a soft case with it.

If it's the one you like, what are you waiting for?

Just so you know, in case you don't, just getting an Irish linen wrap replaced on a cue runs $40 by itself. If it was me though, I would replace the tip to a medium hard layered tip.

I gotta agree with Snapshot here. $56 bucks ain't no big investment and if you upgrade to a nicer cue someday, the Sneaky could always make a nice backup cue or break cue. I would go ahead and upgrade my free case to the hard 2X2 for 29.50 as more than likely, you're gonna end up getting another cue somewhere down the road. Trust me on this one ;) !!!

i love players cues. i'm in my 20's now and i've got about 3 grand wrapped up in my cues. i have a cheap players sneaky pete that i take to certain bars and pool halls when i go because of the area that i'm in. i travel for my pool league so when i'm in a bad area or an area that i've never been to, i take my players in one of those velvet bag cases that i got on ebay for 7 bucks

What's so Sneaky about it? All jokes aside though, for my money honestly I'd select this one http://www.ozonebilliards.com/lucpoolcuel25.html with this paticular cue you get the upgrade of a Uni-loc joint, a more (Sneaky) appearance, and you'll easily be able to upgrade to a Predator Shaft if you prefer to at a later time. Just my .02 cents.

Thanks.

Dumping all my cash into the restoration of my table at the moment, and my main playing cue, which is a Players, isn't in terrific shape, so I'm just looking for something to hold me over for a few months until I can afford a Schon or Pred.

That said, I'm intrigued by Schmelke. Many people on this forum have sworn by their quality, comparing it to that of higher end cues, and it would only be about 50 bucks more. However, I do like the price tag and style of this Players.

Would anyone say Schmelke is significantly better than Players? I know it's subjective and hard to narrow down. I'm a total dunce when it comes to equipment since I've had about two main playing cues my entire life, so I'm trying to learn.

I would stay away from the uniloc joints, thay don't play near as well IMO

That's what I've read. I was all set to save up for a Pred Sneaky with the uniloc too.

How about this Players with a Pred shaft? Or a Schmelke with a Pred?

aren't lucasi and players made in the same factory anyways? i've played with almost any mass produced cues since i have friends that work at a billiards store and i've never really been impressed with lucasi. just my personal opinion but it seems like it's better to save the money and get a players. just me anyways. i think players uses a 5/16 x 14. could be wrong about that but it's easy to get predator, ob1, universal shafts to fit almost anything. radial pins aren't as easy to find i think. i know ob1 makes them but i don't think the other two do

i have used predator 314 and z shafts. both first and second generations as well as a universal smartshaft. i had the tx-8 and i've used the ls shaft as well. i ended up selling everything and going to a regular shaft. for my playing style, i found that all the hype about the aftermarket shafts wasn't worth the money or time getting used to it. then again, who knows. i'm no pro

I would argue that point. What don't they do that you'd like them to? The joint in this case is still wood to wood, so where's the issue of hit difference I really don't think there is one. If we're talking SS, vs Ivory vs phenolic vs some other material you might have an argument.
