Players Szamboti Cue...get out there and use them!

Hi all

This is one of my daily players. Barry made this for me in 2006. All classic fare, abalone dots, notched diamonds and barbells, teal/maple stitch ring work. Just the kind of thing I go for. Its a stunning cue (both constructionally and visually) and thats not all........

Look at the butt sleeve. Check out the dings and scratches. If you use an item every week, there is a good chance its going to get knocked a bit from time to time. Look at the used shafts. Blue chalk will stain shafts but you need chalk if you are going to play pool. I don't mistreat the cue in anyway, this is normal wear and tear from constant use. This cue plays as good as any cue I have ever used and it is better than most.

What I am trying to say is, we sometimes lose sight of what these beautiful creations are made for. Yes, they are expensive. Yes, they are highly desirable and therefore collectable. With that in mind, some people fear that their investment will de-value if they play with it or that it could get stolen from their local club. Well, I look at it like this....I could get knocked down tomorrow. At least I got to use my Szamboti in my lifetime. I posted something similar a while back about one of my Gus Szamboti cues. I felt it needed reiterating.

Don't forget, cues are tools that need to be USED. Its a crime against nature (your cue was once part of a tree) to simply lock them up forever and show them at parties.

The greatest compliment you can give a cue maker is to tell him you are using his cue.

Have a good weekend

Si
PS: I show my cues at parties too:)

Lol, it does mate....not as much as it should but I want Barry to refinish and re-wrap it before it goes out full time again. Barry is a bit busy at the moment (I wonder why :)) but when he gets time, I will ship it state side or bring it to VF.

A beauty of a cue for sure that needs to be played.
The man is always busy with so many fires going and some gems in the mix. Cannot wait to see the finished projects.

Hope you are well.

Cheers Myron, everything here is great. It will be good to catch up with you guys next year.

Barry is a living legend as we all know. As long as he keeps the tradition going, there will always be a customer for Szamboti cues. I am glad Jimmy and his siblings are making cues now.

I played with a Barry for a year, then I switched to a Gus for almost a year. Now i'm not playing full time with either a Gus or Barry :frown: But I do take some of them and play with them often when I'm playing alone, I have a GSB that I play with the most, its my favorite cue I own. All of my Barry cues that I have used play great-I have some that are unchalked new and will stay that way(I kinda have a hard time with this because they are cues and should be used but they are 10 years old but brand new, real fancy cues)

I would love to shoot some balls with the GSB, Eric. Hope you have a good time at the Mosconi Cup. I have had to sell my tickets because I have a family do I can't miss. Enjoy it in London and hope to see you at VF next year.
