Playin with Headphones

I am a huge fan of the Bose.....matter of fact have two sets...one that I can use with my iphone and answer the phone and such and a pair of plain headphones...

A bud has the Dre's and claims the bass is a little better but we have different styles in music so that works.....


Bose also does warranty (replace no questions) and upgrades (from my previous Bose for 50 bucks)

I have an Ipod, with high-quality JVC earbuds (the kind that plug into your ear like earplugs, cancelling outside noise). But still, I use them very sparingly. Unless disco or a live band is playing, I leave them in the car. I don't have a problem blocking outside noises while I'm playing.

It's a trait that should be learned if you plan on playing pool outside of your own garage/man-cave/basement. Especially if you plan on playing in tournaments or on any formal, competitive level.

You can't expect the outside world to be quiet just because you're playing pool. You need to be able to adjust accordingly to the environments that surround you.

As to the headphones I never tried the one you mentioned but I have used a few currently I use the Sony around the ear fits the ear canal well. I like the sound and I can block out most ambient noise but do have to turn up the iPod.

At issue for me is the cable routing, I do not like the cable grabbing me or anything such as a corner on a valley table. If I run the cable over my back shoulder it grabs on me at times distracting, if I go down the front then it can cause problems including fouling a ball. I would like a Bluetooth setup but have never made that happen has anyone tried the bluetooth option.

For those of you who are chuckling at the "Beats by Dr.Dre" thing...

Monster actually makes these headphones. The folks at Monster make top-shelf stuff. So it's not surprising how good these headphones are.

Nice hearing (heh) some good reviews here from folks about the headphones.

Here's a new one I had the other day for French blue, which was "azure." I had to Google it to get the correct spelling, but I found the description intriguing:

French blue is a deep azure color commonly used in quality men's dress shirts. An older name for this color, no longer used, is France. The first recorded use of France as a color name in English was in 1919.

Here is an Azure Jay depicted below.

To stay on topic, the Beats headphones come in colors, but the red, blue, and yellow Beats are hard to find. Mine are basic black, which keeps me looking low-key when I'm in my action pit on the job.:grin-square:

As a previous poster said, try running the cable inside your shirt. Eliminates walking around the table and getting yanked.....

These are what I use. NO WIRES!!! Excellent sound. Made by the same company that makes the "Beats by Dre" headsets Jam was talking about which is called Monster I believe. Put these on and you can't even hear the balls being hit on your own table, much less anyone or anything in the Poolroom.

I just can't deal with the wires going down my shirt and pulling on me every second I shoot.

Elvicash.....You can try these (only works with IPOD Shuffle) or IPOD had a bit more expensive option for all the IPOD's which is wireless and similar to this model. Just plug a card into the IPOD and the Headsets pick the signal up anywhere in the room. Run ya about 150.00

I don't think they should be allowed in tourneys at all.

Of course, loud music should also not be allowed in tourneys either...

I played an event recently and there was a live band, so loud that people couldn't hear their matches called. It was abig and crowded room, I was ~20ft away from the PA the director was using and I couldn't hear a thing he was saying. A couple folks got forfieted. Brutal!

If the headphone wearer is actually paying attention to the match, so that any and all communication between players is possible, what "issue" is being imposed upon the non-wearer?

I just learned that only some Radio Shacks are selling them as a pilot, but that they are so popular, the Radio Shacks cannot keep them on the shelves. They're that good.

You can also get them on Amazon for the same price. I trust Amazon, have had good experiences with them so far [knock on wood]. :wink:

You are correct, if there are no issues there are no issues

But the major reason for wearing them is to eliminate one sourse of sensory interference. Therefore, 'any and all communication' is not possible.

So much better than listening to clowns who never shut up while people are playing.

I cannot say enough good things about these Beats. Look, I can buy any set of headphones or earpods in the world, but the Beats actually are the best for audio quality, at least to my ear, which in my industry is extremely important. I consider myself having a seasoned ear, FWIW.

I would love to hear about the Beats Lady Gaga earpods, if they're any good. I like over-the-ear headphones best, just used to them, I guess, but I am interested in the Lady Gaga earpods. Does anybody have any experience with them?

Without looking at the specs, they're not likely to have the bass-response that you have with the ones you already purchased. Simply put, earbud style headphones cannot reproduce the bottom end as well as headphones with larger drivers (speakers) in them. That's not the only consideration, as Bose has proven that you can get A LOT of sound from very small speakers. But as a general rule of thumb, the bigger the driver, the easier it is to get a bigger bass-response. (If that's what you're looking for. To me, that's what makes the sound better, a fuller sound. Hearing is just another form of taste, everyone's is different. Folks have different hearing defeiciences, as well, and that affects how and what people "hear" with different sets of headphones.)

Blackballed - Some people are loud or insensitive intentionally this has been called "sharking". This should not be allowed in tournament. However this is really subjective and somewhat hard to enforce. I just played Tim Heath in a tournament he is a walking talking shark tank he is always loud and frequently out of hand. Tim does anything possibleto distract or break the opponents focus. This is not only during my turn at the table but during his as well, believe me some headphones would have helped to equalize the game, I just wanted to lay my best game whch I did not do during the match. A method to allow people to actually play the game and not be distracted by this and other activiities in the room or tournament wold be allowing the use of head phones or noise cancelling devices.

Exactly what is the use/value of making headphones illegal?
