Playing By Feel vs. By Calculation?

So you call me stupid for making a point, then when I explain the point you try winding me up by thanking me for stating the obvious...cheers :) don't think I can win either way.

It seems the only way to please you is to either A) worship the ground you walk on, B) agree with everything you have said and back you up regardless of what crap you tell people or C) claim TOI is a valid and useful system that all top pros use on all shots. D) admit pool is the toughest sport on the planet E) Refer to golfers as the best athletes on the planet F) never critique him for name dropping in every other post G) And shake in your own boots when he mentions at least once a day he is a karate expert

Fixed that for ya :)[/QUOTE]
Thanks, I knew I was missing something. We could go on, and recite through the alphabet seven fold...but we wont. I think we can call that point made :)

Now let's take it easy here boys...

I do much more reading here than posting - I have read many of CJ's threads.

We all have different personalities, and we can come across on the internet differently than we intend. That happens easily.

CJ is an accomplished player and I do not think anyone here would argue that.

How many top level players come on here to offer free advice and talk pool?

You do not have to agree with CJ, you do not have to order anything from him, but there is no call for personally attacking him either.

It's really not hard to take what you need and leave the rest

I have been playing long enough that I'm not interested in TOI, TOO, CTE or any thing that even remotely resembles those sort of things.

I am interested more at this point with the mental aspects of this great game.

Not so long ago CJ wrote a thread about the unification of body and mind to produce top level repeatability. This may not have been easily absorbed by everyone, but it was great stuff, at least for me, helped me make a connection in my PSR, and I am a better player for it.

Thank you CJ. -- Keep on rocking on buddy .. :D

I had a shot the other day where I wanted to play rail first with enough speed to come up off the second rail for a side pocket shot. I forgot to calculate that the cue ball picks up spin coming of the rail and picking up more spin form the second rail leaving me a long side pocket shot. Next time I'll remember to calculate that in.

This will sound counter-intuitive but I calculate first and then get down on the aim line and stroke by feel. It's just that I'm more confident about the feel part if I've calculated the shot first.

This particularly applies to banks where I need to shorten up the angle via speed and inside english to either pocket the ball or get position.

Two things have improved my banking significantly: Tor Lowery's Zero-X DVD and looking at the aim-point on the rail while I'm down on the shot.

the content ends up being the same.

They just keep changing their names, the content ends up being the same.
