Playing for 1 week.

In three days I have made 44 twice. I miss the break ball both times. I played too much spin and got stuck on the rail leaving full table length shots. I am starting to understand the pack better and seeing how to bump to develop balls. A friend of mine came over to the house and we played straight again (2 days in a row). in a race to 150, I missed in the 3rd rack twice. The 20' and 30's are coming often.

I have a rules question though. Where does the break ball go when it is left in the rack... and the same question for CB.

There is a chart that was just posted that tells where the balls go in that situation:

That'd be 42. Any 'break ball miss' lands on a multiple of 14.

Do you have to hit the last ball first. Say I leave the 14 for my last ball. Can I hit the pack and then the 14? The guy I played said I couldn't. I had a ball finish close to the rack so I hit the rack first to develop, then the CB hit my break ball.

You can hit anything you want.

So you hit the rack with the cue ball and had the cue ball carom into the other ball making the break ball??!!

I've seen that a few times.

I never added them, just thought each rack would be 15. Shows how much I play. What would 10 racks give you 140?
in Straight pool...u get 1 point for EVERY ball u make..so that would be 150..without any fouls along the way of course ;)

Yes that was the shot. The object ball finish close to the side pocket. I played the CB off the top of the rack and hit the last ball over the side pocket. The CB was over on the other side rail almost middle diamond.

It is really hard playing someone else that takes the total opposite ball of what I would use. I takes the fun out when you see the break ball you worked for go down early.

If 3 racks is 42 then 10 would be 140 wouldn't it? Maybe this is why people switched to 9 ball. Seems to be a ball missing every rack. I added to 5 racks and it only comes to 70.

You get 14 for every rack, keep in mind the breakball is always left on the table.

NO, NO NO.

In straight pool you only get to shoot 14 of the balls, leaving one for a break shot. Then when you get to the end of the next rack, it is the same thing. You leave another break shot and now you have 28, shooting the break shot.

Multiples of 14 in Straight pool.

This is correct math for 14.1 (fourteen and one) , but its not why people started playing 9 ball.

ya i do..i hear he is in Florida now...

He must have retired from the pool scene now I would imagine. Mike Xarios is a great guy and could play some 14.1 at one time. I used to run the Eastern States 14.1 Championships many moon ago, he finished high, he could knock em in da hole.
