Playing for cash money in 2025?

In my experience most league players won't bet that fat meat is greasy. Bet enough that it hurts to lose it. That could be a little or lot depending on your bankroll and the size of your nuts.
I hear guys talking shit about wishing they could play some winner breaks rollout, but asa you try to make a game, they shut up. I don't get it.

if you are a regular in a pool room
you should already know who gambles and for how much and what games
if you plan on walking into a room cold "to find action"
just walk up to someone get yourself a game and work out how much to play for
make it an amount that wouldnt hurt you financially with losing a few sets (although after the first set you should have an idea of your chances of winning.......unless your opponent is stalling and you dont realize it)
or at least until you got to break twice in onepocket

All you gotta do is check Fargo and go from there. You'll know exactly who and what you're playing. There's no mystique anymore. Kinda taken some of the fun out of it.

50 to 100 a rack if I know they won't quit me up a couple games

500 to 1000 a set if I know its a good game and they won't quit me up a couple sets....mimimum 3 sets

Hardest part of action is finding it.
People have no heart or are broke...

If you find someone who will play for decent money, do all you can to accommodate them. Increase the handicap if they can't win.

Pretty much have to travel to get anything decent for action. I drag myself to Super Billiards every year to play a few guys that I know gamble correct. Usually find a new one each year. If Derby wasn't such a long drive, I'd go again...best action I ever seen.
Everybody quits now. It's real work to hook a guy solid anymore. Not that many around. They're all on the boat dammitt!!!

Wish I had known this a long time ago. Just enter a Fargo reported tourney and dump hard.

I’m surprised to hear that. I’m not far from the StL area and figured it still a hot bed for 1-pkt.

I watch $20 - $50 games everyday. I don’t play 1-pkt well, so I don’t play but I watch.

9 ball has taken a hit tho bcuz of all the leagues now, around here. I've been trying unsuccessfully to get a ring game going for months with no success. They're my crack. And a helluva lot of fun with the right players. Don't need to eviscerate, 5 and 10, ya know??

yea when someone calls me a nit. which i am certainly not or they don't know what a nit is.

i almost always tell them to empty out their pockets and ill flip a coin with them for all of it. if you wont now, who is the nit.

Based on your posting history you probably would never flip the coin once they accepted because you are not the favorite.

Normally 9 ball. Race to 4 or 5 for $20. Some players only want to play 8 ball but it’s the same bet. Im only really playing for fun and with people I generally know. Losing $100 isn’t going to hurt but we’re also all pretty friendly with each other and not trying to create bad vibes between us. Sometimes we just play races to 3 for snacks or drinks from the vending machines lol. They’re like $2 each.

If people want to set up a larger race it can be done but everyone is generally just looking to add pressure and not rob anyone.
I have a standing Friday night nine ball ring game with 4 buddies. A buck on the 5 and $2 on the 9.

We take turns buying the round of drinks and if someone wins $40 it's a huge win..

It's a blast,

that's why you will never understand being a pro gambler. or even a social one.

simple third grade math. doing that is even and the same as doing nothing.
but as you would not think of, have later plus benefits to offering or doing it.

but most would not. as said in previous posts as they have no courage or guts to take on any risk, and hate those that do what they cant do.

I work as a dealer on the strip in Las Vegas but sure I don’t understand gambling. I do understand based on your posting history you only bet if you are a favorite and flipping a coin is even money. Those later benefits you speak of are non existent to any experienced gambler.

as a dealer you are likely to know little about gambling things. to say the truth. and i have spent more time in casinos than you will ever have.

and are you not almost always taking everyone you deal to advantage of, with an edge on them ? how can you live with that.

and when they tip do you tell them you took advantage of them and their tip is worthless anyways as you pool all your tips with the whole shift?

you are right about one thing though, i only bet when i believe i have an edge as any smart person would do.
and that edge can be on just doing say one bet negative if it can set up something next or later that is better.

I know a lot of top tier players (shortstop and a little above) who are just gamblers and have no Fargo ratings.

They can hide their games really well in one hole and banks (where there is no Fargo)

The ATM machines did a lot of harm too. Nobody carries much cash and they notice when they keep traveling to the ATM.

This is true except in the rare case somebody doesn't mind paying for the experience like ten dollar games with Efren.

The general opinion on here seems to be that it is unethical to lure somebody to a table but if they weren't trying to get easy money they wouldn't be interested in playing with the seeming banger anyway. I always figure there are pool room ethics and street ethics. Like the late night ladies in the honky-tonks, there aren't many in the pool hall I would take home to meet my family. Exceptions no doubt but they are rare.

Some in the pool hall are amoral to an amazing degree. I knew a man that found a way to cheat his brother once or twice a year. He couldn't find a way to cheat me so we often talked and were friendly, not to be mistaken with being friends.

in actuality playing a top pro for small bets is really paying for the ride not gambling. although for some they think it is.
but if i played efren i would at least make him give me enough spot so i could make him work.

although i can watch him run balls without playing him. and dont really have an interest in doing it. ive played a number of top pros for money in the far past. of course with a huge spot.

The casino does not hide their edge like you do. People come in willingly knowing they have the worst of it. I am not hustling anyone out of their money. Nice try though.

Just admit you are a nit and be done with it. We all know you were bluffing when you offered to flip the coin. You won’t play a 50/50 match but you will flip a coin? Just stop man no one believes you or at least I don’t.
