Playing pool on vacation....A little gambling story!!

So, the family and I went for a nice vacation to Myrtle Beach and I went out last night for awhile to play. I call the day before to see if there is any cheap action and the guy I talked to at the pool room says "Yeah, Wednesday is the night you can find action." That sounds good to me so I wait until Wednesday and drive over about 8 o'clock or so. I get there and every 9 ft table is taken due to leagues. ARGHHH!!! Wow, big action night here.

So I sit around for 20 minutes or so and ask the bartender who happens to be the guy I talked to on the phone if ANYONE in here will play for a few bucks. He points out a couple guys and I ask one to play for cheap as in 5-10 a game or cheap sets playing 9 ball or banks. He only wants to play on bar tables and I never get to play on those so I tell him that the 9 ft table is ok with me. He finally agrees to play a set on each for $50 a set. I say ok but then he goes to find his backer (geez, big spender) and he only wants to play for $40 a set race to 5. Damn, who needs a backer for $40 a set these days?????????

So I agree and we play on the 9ft table first and he gets me 5-4. I pay off and we go the the bar table where I get only 2 shots in a race to 5 and don't win a game. I wasn't surprised though since I never play bar tables. Then I tell him we will play a race to 9 for $100 on the big table and he ask for weight. Are you kidding me???? Who is this guy???? I told him that I was stuck $80 and the first set went hill-hill and I couldn't give him weight. But I did agree to adjust if the game was out of line to get him to play. Which it wasn't......but anyway we go hill-hill again and his backer comes over and starts making small talk about my cue and his cue and so on and so forth. I politely told him that I was playing right now and would be happy to look at his cue after the set. He continues to talk and I continue to keep my head in the game ignoring him until he gets up and leaves.

As he walked back over to his buddy he says, "Sorry man, I tried to rattle him but I don't think it worked." Real classy guys here I'm thinking. The guy plays a leave and his fan club starts shouting about getting that money to pay child support and crap. I'm laughing my ass off at this point (inside of course). Anyway, I win the set and break about even after table time and such and am glad to get out of there. The guy wants me to come back tonight and play some more and I tell him that I probably will but don't know for sure. I hope he's waiting all night on me after pulling moves like that.

Sorry for the long post but out of all my travels I have been fortunate to not have had to deal with movers and shakers very often like these guys and gals. Just thought I would share with you folks.

Yup real classy. Just like your avatar.

Ok, this is the second time you have brought up my avatar and you were told how to turn them off. If you have not heard we do live in a country where free speech is allowed and I have spoken my peace regarding my avatar the same as you have voiced your opinion about it.

I will consider this your last comment about it or I will take it as stalking, etc. So, from this day forward please stay the hell outta any thread I start and disregard any post I make. I have not put anyone on ignore yet but you could possibly be the first.

And for the record, you don't know me or anything about me to know how much class I have or don't have. You may be surprised if you met me learning what kind of person I am. So, until then please keep comments about me to yourself. Thanks!!

if a guy needs a backer for 40 there's a good chance you'll only get a shot at 2 sets anyway

I love your avatar.. And I also Like Boggs avatar.. which is something similar.. I tried to send you some rep for your earlier post but it wouldn't let me Ive got to spread it around a bit.. You guys do know that arguing over the internet is like the special Olympics.. Even if you do think you win.. Your still FIN retarded.. Either have lil friendly match were you guys bet a couple of thousand and If Gary looses he takes down the avatar.. But If Gary Wins You have to make it your avatar for 6 months.. =).. Lets get with it.. =)

I, personally, despise political Avatars and feel they should be banned because they might offend someone. There should be more ,"Chick," Avatars , like mine.:rotflmao1:

You must have went to Smokehouse billiards on 501. Nice joint with some nice tables but damn are there Nits everywhere. I used to live in MB and would only really get action on occasion--and I am no great player but will jump up to play when I feel right. I go back every year on vacation (dad still lives in Calabash, about 25 mins from 501) and it never changes.

it's like that in most areas that're lower income communities. its similar to that out here where i live too. the best advice i can give in places like this is "win the first set!!!!!!!"

he's not doing any better or worse than bush did. you can only do so much with what you're left. the guy inherited the country with an economy that was in the decline

You can't blame everything on Bush (I didn't like Bush either, but Obama is way worse)

No, I played there last year while we were there. I played a guy there who could not count...literally!!! We played for $5 a game and he got up 3 games for $15. I asked him to to play for $10 and he accepted. I reached him a $5 and and brought the coin back to 1 game and he insisted that it should be marked for 2 games. I tried explaining that the coin is now worth $10 dollars and the $5 I gave him made up the difference of what is owed and what is marked. He could not make the connection and wanted to move the coin to the 2 game mark and it frustrated the hell outta me to say the least. So, I didn't go back this year. The sad part is he was the only guy that would bet anything other than a beer....go figure!!!

I found another place to play at this time and it wasn't much better for action!!! Oh well, it may be time to lay the cues back and save some dough for something else....

Action is action, cheap or serious, but no matter what, I'm not going to give weight to someone that just beat me two sets unless i'm laying it down.

After all, you prolly only could have won one, maybe two sets off the guy from jump street,(cheap sets ,backer and all)............but you never know, you just gotta get in there and beat the bush's sometimes and see what happens!

Back in the late 70's Myrtle Beach had action, my brother stayed around their for a summer once, and got lots of play.

meh.....sucks....

Was vacating there a year or two ago.....got steered to the same joint. Had just a couple of hundred to lay, but was game.

Nothing.

I won't say mb is dead. I don't know. I do know I found it that way.

I don't usually bet that big.....but. Im fine with it vacating and all. Dropping a few or picking up a few suits me fine.
