So, the family and I went for a nice vacation to Myrtle Beach and I went out last night for awhile to play. I call the day before to see if there is any cheap action and the guy I talked to at the pool room says "Yeah, Wednesday is the night you can find action." That sounds good to me so I wait until Wednesday and drive over about 8 o'clock or so. I get there and every 9 ft table is taken due to leagues. ARGHHH!!! Wow, big action night here.
So I sit around for 20 minutes or so and ask the bartender who happens to be the guy I talked to on the phone if ANYONE in here will play for a few bucks. He points out a couple guys and I ask one to play for cheap as in 5-10 a game or cheap sets playing 9 ball or banks. He only wants to play on bar tables and I never get to play on those so I tell him that the 9 ft table is ok with me. He finally agrees to play a set on each for $50 a set. I say ok but then he goes to find his backer (geez, big spender) and he only wants to play for $40 a set race to 5. Damn, who needs a backer for $40 a set these days?????????
So I agree and we play on the 9ft table first and he gets me 5-4. I pay off and we go the the bar table where I get only 2 shots in a race to 5 and don't win a game. I wasn't surprised though since I never play bar tables. Then I tell him we will play a race to 9 for $100 on the big table and he ask for weight. Are you kidding me???? Who is this guy???? I told him that I was stuck $80 and the first set went hill-hill and I couldn't give him weight. But I did agree to adjust if the game was out of line to get him to play. Which it wasn't......but anyway we go hill-hill again and his backer comes over and starts making small talk about my cue and his cue and so on and so forth. I politely told him that I was playing right now and would be happy to look at his cue after the set. He continues to talk and I continue to keep my head in the game ignoring him until he gets up and leaves.
As he walked back over to his buddy he says, "Sorry man, I tried to rattle him but I don't think it worked." Real classy guys here I'm thinking. The guy plays a leave and his fan club starts shouting about getting that money to pay child support and crap. I'm laughing my ass off at this point (inside of course). Anyway, I win the set and break about even after table time and such and am glad to get out of there. The guy wants me to come back tonight and play some more and I tell him that I probably will but don't know for sure. I hope he's waiting all night on me after pulling moves like that.
Sorry for the long post but out of all my travels I have been fortunate to not have had to deal with movers and shakers very often like these guys and gals. Just thought I would share with you folks.
