playing the 8 ball ghost

I've been playing the 9 ball ghost for a while now. I would have to say on a bar box if I play it to a race to 5 .. I beat it 3 out of 5 times. I never really played the 8 ball ghost because it seemed silly for some reason. I prefer playing 8 over 9 ball but it just seemed 9 ball was a better game to play against the ghost. Well I've now done it 8 or 9 times in a race to 3 and haven't beaten it once lol It's much tougher. The opening run in 8 ball is always the toughest even with ball in hand. I've gotten it to the hill a couple time but can't get it done. My break is a little lacking lately because of tennis elbow and my unwillingness to go get another shot in it so I'm not getting quite the explosion I normally do but even when I do get a great break it still isnt easy. Anyone play this on a regular basis and do you think its helped?

You are moving from running 9-Balls in numerical order to running 8 Balls in any order with 7 other balls in your way. IMHO it is a completely different game and while one may beat the 9-ball ghost, I wouldn't suggest that the 8-Ball ghost is easier.

It did take me a second to realize you meant 8-ball the game and not 8-balls sequentially. lol.

I would think the main difference would be with 15 balls and 7 which will not be yours, you simply have more chances to lock up shots and block pockets.

Key for me playing the 8-ball ghost it looking for the trouble areas and figuring how to manipulate the table to fix them, i.e. break outs, position for break outs, blocked pockets, etc. However, if you break isn't good, you will probably see more problems with balls blocked or without a pocket.

8 ball ghost is tougher on a bar table then 9 ball on a bar table, 9 ball ghost is tougher on a big table then 8 ball on a big table.

Can someone explain to me exactly what playing the ghost means? I think I understand, but I am not positive...

Thanks in advance,

Ben

playing the ghost basicly means you break a rack (take ball in hand or don't) and attempt to run out. If you do you win, if you don't the ghost wins. play it as a set say race to 5 or race to 10 and see who wins on a regular basis. Its a good way to determine your level of play.

Beat it last night... I didnt expect to because my elbow was killing me so I had to dial back my break. I was so jacked up that i was about to beat it that I rattled the 8 into the pocket. lol
