Playing the Devil's Advocate for Barry Behrman

Wanna bet?

Bar Neckid Ball Girls. And a couple of brass poles for half time.

Just like Naked News. Every time a ball has to be spotted, an article of clothing comes off.

Think of all the money you will save on free popcorn and pop.

Players be lined up for a block.

If I had the money then I would do one and I am fairly sure it would be profitable. The reason is because I would do it like Kevin Trudeau did by locking the players up in contracts and ensuring that I had a product to sell.

That is a pretty amazing statement. You maybe think pool could be marketed like pro wrestling and market personalities? Except the scale of the event isn't in the same ballpark.
Pool players just don't present themselves as athletic no matter how you slice it...it's not going to attract sponsors looking to promote a healthy lifestyle. It's not realistic.

P.S. Not to mention Kevin Trudeau as an example

If your expense to get to the tournament and stay 5 days is $3000.00, you would hope the 10th place be about that much to guarantee some money back, so that is 30k for 1st prize, so 10k added will not do much to bring top players from all over the world..
Am I writing in code or something? Who cares if someone comes from China to play. I am just talking about running successful tournaments. You could run one every other month and the players who find it worthwhile and a reasonable distance to travel can come.

Only two people that i know they can run such big scale tournaments in the USA, not UK, or Philippine and that is Barry, and the other guy is lockup for 10 years behind bars. If it is not for Barry, US open would have died long time ago. There is no money for high scale pool in the USA sorry.Barry is squeezing every penny to make it happen, i hope he will be able to pay the players as promised.

Again, am I writing in a code you can't understand. My question was, why does he seem to have a problem every year? In 39 years it seems like it should be easy at this point.

Yep, 39 yrs.

Do you think that his ego might be involved a bit? No shame in looking at the current situation from yr to yr and downsizing when necessary.

As others have mentioned, look at Turning Stone. You can run a very successful tourney with less money and attract just as many players as the tourney is considered rather a prestigious one to play in. Both Turning Stone and the Open.

Barry doesn't want to be like everyone else. He wants to be the best regardless of the cost.

Would a person rather be remembered as a Successful Tourney Promoter or one that has screwed up the most.

Ego. Well, couple that being fueled on Crown and you are bound to get some chest thumping.

I would rather be a person that people refer to as a good guy that tries to run a great tourney as opposed to one where people call you a Buffoon openly on message boards and behind your back.

Which person is going to be happier with the respect earned.

Every business has one main goal to meat:

Did Barry make money? he must have, otherwise he would not be doing it for last 39 years. Do the majority of people still watch US Open, they must have; ok few thought it is not good US open, fine; there are always those that complain..

See the thing about pool, as long as the match(s) are streamed and i can watch, i will always buy it, i do not care who behind it; Barry managed to bring 99% of top players back!!

IMO, i consider the US Open a big success, and a big thank you to Barry, and all that helped.

Lastly, i will buy the 40th US open stream too!
