Playing with a hat on, does it help?

I used to have a nice snap brim that I wore while playing, wish I knew where it went? Now I wear a Ballard Stetson (white"Painters/longshoreman hat) unless I'm doing one of the three things I posted before.

Hats and sunglasses are such an advantage that they should be banned.

J. (once accidentally wore a wristband to a pool tournament, won the sucker)

Yup. Shaun Wilkie comes to mind. He used to wear his ball cap traditionally with the sunglasses on the brim...now he wears his cap backwards?

Embrace that bald cranium...don't be ashamed...the girls love rubbing a bald man's head.

It's poor form. No "gentleman" wears a hat/cap in a building. If one feels the need to cover up....ask Jay about who used to make his toupee's. He has obviously "seen the light", Hallelujah. Ain't fooling anyone.

Hats never helped me, especially ball caps. My neck is too short. I could never look under the bill very well when making a shot. I suppose I could turn it around, but I never cared for for that look.
That reminds me. I once dated a woman who had no neck whatsoever. Whenever we'd walk into a restaurant everyone's head would turn except hers. She had no neck.
Anyway. A French beret might be nice. Hell, if they're good enough for our Olympians they're good enough for us pool players.
A big Panama could be sporty, or perhaps a ...

I wear rimless glasses. Strong lighting from above seems to affect my vision. I wear a hat to keep the table lights off my glasses. However, I played some of my best pool wearing contacts without a hat. I think you get a better view of the whole table without the bill covering some of your vision.

...

I love to wear hats, but whenever I shoot pool I tend to tip it up a bit so it doesn't block part of my peripheral (sp) vision....most likely a mental thing.

I do the same thing when I shoot too. I also wear glasses and that gets on my nerves as much as the hat does. I usually wind up taking the hat off after a couple of games though

A ball cap is necessary following cataract surgery

I had cataract surgery last year and for me one of the results has been light sensitivity, especially the glare and halo around lights. When driving a car here in Florida I wear three pairs of sunglasses. My current 20-20 vision has gotten a little better over the last year (less glare) but I still wear two pair of sunglasses to drive.

I do not wear hats; never have, except for fun stuff like in the avatar. However, about nine months ago I started wearing a baseball cap when playing pool and found that it really helps cut down on the overhead lights glare. I recommend giving it a try. I think you will be surprised by how much the glare from overhead lights is reduced and thus improves your vision. My eyes do not get tired as quickly when I wear a ball cap.
I also bought a pair of “Polar Optics” sunglasses from Wal-Mart for about $25.00. They are polarized and the way they are constructed they cut down light from above and from the side. They are similar to a set of blinders. These too help. The polarized glasses reduce the glare from the balls and the way in which the glasses are constructed they are great for overall glare reduction. (BTW the Polar Optics glasses can also be worn over a pair of regular glasses if needed).

However, I did find that polarized glasses cuts down on visual acuity and I do not see that balls quite as well with polarized lens. In general I wear then for half table or less shots but remove the glasses for length of table shots.

Until I had the surgery I never realized how much glare and overhead lights can affect your ability to see fine detail. I suppose I will wear a ball cap or some sort of visor for the rest of my life. The polarized lens while useful will probably go away as my vision improves.

I have also noticed that I raise or lower the bill of the ball cap as needed. It is almost a ritual and one I like as it tends to slow me down a little and I often readjust my pre shot routine as needed. So all in all the ball cap or some variant will stay with me though I don’t like ball caps in general.
