Playing with a house cue

I am a beginner when it comes to pool. I used to play often with my friends when I was in college and high school and always been a fan of pool and snooker.
Recently I started to take on playing again but I go to the pool club and practice drills, pattern play, work on my stroke etc. to become a better player.
I usually go after work and bring my cue case with me. Some days I don't bring my cue with me and find I have time for a quick 1-2 hr of play after work (the club I play at is 5 mins away from my office) so if I go I would have to play with a house cue.

Even though I am a beginner I can still see differences when playing with my own cue then when hitting with the ones provided by the club. The place where I am playing has decent tables but the cues are in terrible condition (cracked, misshaped tips etc) but if I go through all the club I can maybe find one in playable condition.

So the question is can you still get a good practice using one of their cues or you should try to always play with your cue?
I have an early Falcon F-17 as my only cue.

You will play more consistently with your cue. There is nothing wrong with a house cue in good condition.

First welcome to the forum and enjoy your journey in the game of pool. Yes, in my opinion, you can get a good session in playing with a house cue. That being said, it is important to play with equipment you feel comfortable with. Everyone has an opinion. A good player can play well with any stick. The longer I play the game the more I realize that it really is the Indian not the arrow.
The marketers of pool equipment will do their best to convince you that it is the arrow.

Yes, IF its reasonably straight with a decent tip. If not, don't waste your time. Better off not playing if you have to play with a real pos cue.

One piece cues

I think a well balanced, straight, good taper, good tip house cue plays as good as anything out there. Anything else is ease of transportation and eye appeal. I'm 74 and played in bars from coast to coast 50 plus years playing off the wall. A good house cue is as good as it gets.

You gotta be luckiest player on the planet. I've played since '79 and and have found, MAYBE, five(TOTAL) house cues anywhere near what you describe. Most are either semi-boomarang shape or have a tip that looked like a dog chewed on it.

If you're used to a certain cue, the biggest adjustment you need to make when using a house cue is using centerball as much as possible - high center, lower center, dead center, and avoiding left and right english, since estimating and compensating for the deflection of a house cue in your aiming will be very hard to do.

I did not say i found a petfect house cue in every bar i was in, most are as you say, bent and real bad tips. Many feel like you are playing with a long corn cob and will eat the meat off your hand if you squeeze it too tight.

What I did say, was if you had one with all those properties is plays great.

It shouldn't be that hard for these bars to keep a few good house cues. Geeeeez

I use a house cue as a breaker. When I get lucky and find a half-decent one, I'll play a few racks with it to see if my game suffers. Cannot notice any significant difference.
