Please define "nit".

When I say "size" I mean that figuratively. Woof at someone your own skill level or close to it. Woof at someone who gambles. I have been annoyed at coco's posts before too. I have been annoyed by your posts. Hey, I have been annoyed by my own posts at times. LOL.

I'm just saying, you don't have to push his face in the mud all the time. You're just being a bully. That's probably why the other people who he annoys just try to let him be. They don't want to be a school yard bully. At least complain to the mods about him instead of derailing threads with your hate all the time, or speak to him about the actual issues. Just my opinion.

That post is a very interesting observation. Well off to play One hole with a friend.

Let me put it this way....

Many hustlers, road players, and those who are the stronger players often refer to someone as a "nit" when a person refuses to gamble or play. Many times the person calling someone a "nit" is actually the "nit". The person labeling someone as a "nit" is actually looking for a steal and when that person won't open up there wallet and donate to them then all of a sudden they are a "nit".

So...if I refuse to play someone and I know I am the inferior player then call me a nit if you like. I call it being smart and not giving my money away. And usually that particular thief who is calling me a nit needs my money to feed his fat ass cause the little bit of money he has in his pocket is all he has. That money is also very safe in his pocket cause he will never ask someone to play unless he is sure he will win or is a better player.

The BIG FISH eat the LITTLE FISH every time, but only if you give 'em a chance!!!

I was thinking along the same lines. Based on some of what I've read in this forum, it seems like this:

You're a nit if you don't stay at the table and keep adjusting the spot until I bust you!

A nit is everybody but you or your friends. If someone wont play YOU because they need a spot & you wont give it to them they are a nit. If they wont give YOU a spot they're a nit. YOU CANNOT WIN YOU'RE A NIT IN EVERYBODY ELSE'S EYES.

Hi Cuebacca,
I have long grown tired of his pointless dribble, whining and complaining. It has been going on for years. IMO he has done plenty to deserve everything he gets. I know for a fact I am not the only one who feels this way. I am just the only one who has said anything about it. Bruce is actually bigger than me and probably has close to 30 years on me. I am sure he can take care of himself. He is probably thankful that you are sticking up for him a little but it doesn't effect me either way. I sure hope is SS check comes through so he will finally step up and play like he said he would.

Thanks,

BVal

You and Travis Trotter will then share something in common.

From what I have heard over the years I think it means:

1. Someone who talks a lot of smack, a know-it-all but won't bet a penny.
2. Someone who will quit while ahead in cash.
3. Someone who will suddenly realize they have to leave while ahead.
4. Someone who refuses to adjust.
5. Someone who won't give weight when they have the obvious advantage.
6. Someone who won't "go for anything", say more than $20, but loves to talk about "action".
7. All of the above.

Am I way off?

All of the above, but, lets not forget "stich one, pearl two":scratchhead:

Somebody who talks crap all night long, then you offer a money game and the dude disappears.

In my experience it means a person with little or no willingness to gamble. And generally used by a true nit who is trying to intimidate another person into a bad bet.

A person full of bark, woofing about his skill, then won't bet that water is wet. Somebody that blames the table, the lighting, the smoke, the dirty cueball, the alcohol, and the cue...if he loses fo 5 a rack. Somebody that wins and never runs it back...I like the "nipicking" descripton...but I say it's a banger that thinks he is a shark when he is only a baby lice.

Someone who calls a foul in league play because you didn't mark the pocket on an obvious shot...

in 27 years in the pool room, i have yet to ever really ever come across a defination in words to describe a nit, we all know what they are, but words fail us to describe them.

The word for louse egg , NIT, has been morphed in english to mean
something of no worth. As the word ," Nitpick," demonstrates. To NITPICK is to argue over nothing or something that is of no importance. So it can be implied that a NIT is something not worth your time.

There are degrees of nittishness as follows. In order of degree , from least to worst:

1) Nittishlike
2) Nittish
3) Nitty
4) Nit
5) What a Nit
6) What a fking Nit

No, sorry but that is not a nit move. That's called an a..hole move. Seems like lots of people don't know what a nit is. A nit move would be bringing bottled water from home with you to league so you don't have to pay for it at the bar. Or checking in at a hotel at 5am which fives you 2 nights sleep. Couple examples. It all boils down to being super tight.

Catching on now?

Come on Donny, checking in at the hotel early doesn't make you a nit :D I always thought that was a smart move, lol.

Nit: Someone who plays 7 hrs at a game, is stuck 1-2 games and quits saying that the game is out of line and he needs weight.

Supernit: Someone who plays 6 hrs in a game, has you stuck the whole time, quits you WINNER and tells you he needs more weight.

Super colossal nit: The guy staking the Supernit, who also jumps into the game discussion saying they need more weight to keep playing.

The above happened to me in back to back 1p sessions, betting 25 a game with the nit and then 100 a game playing the other two nits. I quit gambling at pool for about 4 mos after that.
