I am about the trade a cue for another cue with a person here on az. There is no cash involved just cue for cue. What is the best and safest way to protect myself against any problems. the cues we are trading are in the 1000$ range.

any help is much appreciated.

ESCROW!! There is a sticky tab on this subject. Im sure there are a few besides FAST_N_LOOSE that offer such a service..

Two things you can do. First, if the deal is with a resepected member here on AZ with alot of transactions, and a great itrader, I would not worry about it.

Second, if the other member is also a new member, or a member with not so good an itrader, I would use an escrow service. I recommend Marcus (fast_n_loose) here on AZ. There are a few more options for escrow too. Good luck with the first deal. I hope its smooth and flawless.

ask a LOT of questions about the cue, offer a LOT of details about your cue. Communication is the most important. Exchange a lot of clear, good pics,
and lastly, do a search on the person you are about to deal with...if nothing bad comes up, and they have a good established itrader, and previous posts on items for sale, they have reputable members vouching for them...
then you are probably pretty safe.
Ask about a return policy, many members here will give you a 3 day or so if not happy...but then its only fair that you extend the same courtesy to them if they arent happy with your cue.
There are some GREAT PEOPLE on here that I would trust completely, but also SH!t happens-so take the usual precautions. Escrow is safest, just sucks to wait longer...I know.
Go with your gut, and talk to the seller by phone-many times you can feel them out by voice somewhat, in the end, if u dont escrow, youre taking a chance.

good advice above. I would make sure that both parties agree to a 100% rewind for ANY reason. Both must be happy with the deal.

Take clear photos of the cue from every angle before packaging. Take clear photos of all packaging. Ship with insurance. Good luck.

Escrow with someone. Marcus charges $20, I am an enterprising individual with impecable reputation here and would be willing to escrow for $15 (plus all shipping costs, same as Marcus) - but Marcus is much more experienced doing this. If interested PM me.

I have had good luck when both parties mail their cues at the same time with the same carrier such as USPS Priority mail with delivery confirmation and a tracking number. For the most part if both parties agree to this then both parties are trustworthy. If you are scared of this situation then do an escrow type of service. Look at their AZ i trader rating that will tell you a lot. Quite a few years ago i shipped a cue before the guy paid for it. After he got the cue he thought he could keep it and not pay for it. I got hold of the local police in his area and they made him mail the cue back to me. Local police can help you if need be.
