Dear all,

So I got this stick last week. It plays great. Yesterday I got frustrated after a miss and I hit the bumper to the floor. I didn't hit it extremely hard but surprisingly the hit left 3 cracks on the buttcap. I check them over and over, and realized that all crack are on the finish, the buttcap is safe.
So my questions are:
- is there a risk that the cracks will expand and get worse ?
- can I fill them with some kind of putty like epoxy resin ?
- otherwise what is your recommedation to fix it ?

Thanks in advance for your help. I really appreciate it.

Have you removed the bumper to examine the bottom and inside of the butt cap? Why are you convinced you only cracked the finish?

Cracked the inside of the buttcap and through the finish, I bet.

The pressure wave you created can easily cracked a thin wall of a buttcap.

Yes sir I removed the bumper and check inside the buttcap. I believe so but I may be wrong.
Any idea how can I fix this ?
I'm in the middle of nowhere and I don't want to mail the cue just for this. That's why I'm trying to figure out how to do it.
Thanks.

This is an exercise in futility. The finish is cracked. The butt cap may or may not be cracked. The OP hasn't provided any acknowledgement if the butt cap is cracked. And then even if he did, you couldn't rely on that info. He doesn't want to ship it out. He wants to fix it himself. Without seeing exactly what is wrong I seriously doubt anyone can make a fair, honest and accurate assessment of the real problem.

Therefore, bring it to a local repair guy and let him assess the damage as no one on here can assist you with any sense of competence without visually seeing the darn thing.

I checked it again. No crack on the purpleheart, it's a wood grain that appeared to be like a crack in the picture. But it's possible that the buttcap has a crack too.

Hi,

The butt cap kinda looks like it is ebony????

If so, that would explain the crack. IMHO, using wood for a butt cap is just asking for trouble.

JMO,

Rick

It's the purpleheart wood itself contact with the bumper, and the black buttcap contour and cover the outside surface. The black part is only few milimeter of thickness.
