Please HELP ME - Predator 314-2 problem bought online (Seybert)

Hi,

last week I bought a Predator 5K1 + 314-2 shaft from Seybert.
It arrived in Italy on Friday and today I found the time to play with for a couple of hours then I realized the shaft make a strange sound.

If I take the shaft in my hand and I shake it a little bit I hear a strange sound as if something near the tip is moving inside and hitting the side of the shaft, there are no scratches on the ferrule.

Please help me address this to the Seybert customer service in the best way because I don't have the knowledge (pool and english) to this on my own.

I've been waiting a couple of months to buy a cue I finally chose what I wanted and went over budget and now I'm facing this problem (thousands of miles away from where I bought it).

Anyone had to solve similar issue and can give me good advice to solve this in the best and fastest way?

Thank you in advance.

i bet if you called predator they'd take care of this problem with just the cost of shipping (yeah i knowthat still isn't cheap). if you're interested you could be a 314 post cat pre 314-2 from j and j. i think they still have some and they should fit you're cue. they're discounted because of the -2 crap they sell now

Marco.

My Predator started making a clicking sound last week. The shaft is a year old. Then today the ferrule split in half, like someone sliced the end off, about a 1/4" from the end.

There is clearly a weakness in the design toward the end of the ferrule. I am using my back-up shaft now (I have a duplicate).

I'm going to contact Predator Tuesday to see if it can be fixed, or if I have to replace the entire shaft (custom rings and all). A pic is shown below. I just want to point out that this is the first problem I've had with one and I've been using them for at least 4 years.

I don't use a predator and can give you no hint as to the problem. However, I can tell you Seybert's customer support has always been superior in my dealings with them. Give them a call or an email if the call is too expensive from there.

Out of curiousity, was this a 29" shaft or 30" shaft? 314-1 or 314-2?

It's a 314-2 from an early batch. It's a 30" made from a Partial, with a Sniper tip. I had the old rings cut off and installed by Tiger products, who did a nice job.

Like I said, I heard a clicking first like a loose tip. What I think happened was the solid piece they use at the front on the tip end separated internally from the core on the shaft end. That just left the thin ferrule walls holding the whole thing together -and they just weakened and snapped off.

I hope they are still superior while dealing with me.

As of right now I still have not received any answer from them. :(

problem

I sent you a pm with my contact info on it. Please shoot me an email and I will see what I can do about getting your problem fixed with the least amount of inconvenience to you. Sounds like a piece of the foam broke loose in shipping and is rattling around in the hollow spot in the shaft.

I just returned a 30" 314-2 shaft because it didn't match my original. It was 1/4" shorter and the pin wasn't phenolic. (I'll post on this after everything is 100% over) I was told that was because the partial that they started with wasn't long enough and they actually build these in their shop here in the US this way with Predator's authorization. I'm working on finding out if this is true.

I'm no cuemaker, but it looked to me like it's possible someone filled an extra 1/4" with something in your ferrule there possibly to make up for the missing 1/4" on the partial?

Any cuemakers have any thoughts?

Seybert not responding

Just sent another mail to Seybert before going to bed.. still no answer from them. :(

Today's a holiday for some folks, President's Day. They should repond for certain tomorrow.

Ive never had any problems with seyberts either, I am aware of the problem associated with the predator shafts, Most people have no problems, I have and know a few that have, considering the cost, I now Use and carry a differnt brand, No complaints, and the performance meets or exceeds my expectations..

Never mind...I get what you're saying.

You azers

Thank you all for the help you are giving me in different forms; Thank you in particular to Rocky and Shanesinnott (still no update from Edwin Reyes?) for their active help that I hope will resolve my issue soon.

I didn't know Monday in the USA was not a working day.

Ciao.

Seybert's

Hi,

I received the first answer from Seybert's.

Very nice words and seems they are working this out with Rocky from Predator; I'll let you know if facts will come after the nice words.

Hope to solve this very fast; I haven't been playing for a couple of days right now and if you have your home table in the living room that seems really a lot.

Ciao.

I spoke with them earlier (as promised) and they said they were aware of the thread on were on the case.

I hope everything works out for you.

Let me know if I can help in any way.

Just a follow up - I was contacted by Predator (Darrin) thanks to this thread. He indicated that my shaft was one of the recalled early batch of 314-2, and they would repair it for me at no cost, this despite the fact the shaft is a year old.

He could tell from the pic that this was a defect. Predator continues to stand behind their work - and I certainly appreciate their effort.

Thanks Darrin!

Seybert's and Predator

Hi,

I'd like to thank Darrin from Predator and Sid at Seybert's for the kind interest in my issue.

Thanks to Darrin Predator will ship a new shaft tomorrow.
-EDIT-
Without any shipping cost.

He tried to have this solved in Italy but the italian distributor couldn't help, so he decided to send to me a new one.
-EDIT-
I'll update this thread again when I'll receive the shaft so that I can talk about a totall happy ending.

Of course I want to thank you azers again for all the kind words and the active interest you had.

Ciao.
