Hi guys,

I'm new to pool but really enjoying the game. The house cues (Minnesota Fats graphite, old woods) are okay but the tips are shot. I'd like to buy my own cue but want to keep the budget around $100.

Are any of these brands (in the brand's $100 range) significantly better or worse than others:

Cutec
Scorpion
Elite
Olhausen
Viper
Players
Dufferin
McDermott

Others?

Any recommendations you could make are much appreciated.

Go on Ebay and buy a Dale Perry cue. Best value for the money!

But if you win one, don't forget to tell him what diameter tip (shaft) and how long you want the pro taper. Usually 12.75mm tip and shaft with a 15 inch pro taper will work. Good luck!

I have a Pro-Shop in Florida and have an inventory of over 150 used cues, so here is

my breakdown, on how I would rank a $100.00 cue budget.

1) Very Basic Viking

2) SCHMELKE

3) Elite

4) Fury

And if you need any help, let me know. There are many vintage used cues, that in the $100.00 are excellent shooters and if you take care of these cues, if you move up in your budget in the future, you would get every dollar you spent back when you sell them.

Good Luck

Many thanks for all the ideas. Those are some nice looking cues.

Generally I'm not afraid to buy used equipment but since I know so little about pool cues, and most are located far away, I'm very hesitant.

Thanks again!

cues

I buy and sale cues sometimes the customer wants a 150.00 cue.
so i look for a used 100.00 mcdermott, mali (only wood to wood joints) cue depending on what shape the cue is in i will clean the cue up and retip the cue. If you want help in finding the right cue pm me.

Not sure of your skill level but, my first cue was a Players cue...the shaft that came with it was very good for the money.
My next cue was a Falcon w/ Predator shaft which I LOVED!

I also had a friend that had a McDermott cue which was nice too.

The shaft and tip ( imo ) is the most important factor in play ability. After you get used to a cue you can always look into
getting a cue that looks better ( ie: more inlays etc ).Of course some of the players cues and cues in that price range
have elaborate decals of inlays etc that still look pretty good if that is a concern.

I would however ( no offense to Cuetec users ) to stay away from Cuetec cues as the hit on them
is very different from wood shafts, which are the norm.

I agree with the above statement , the players cue offered is a good deal,
with the kamui tip.

I look for solid maple shafts without resin.
fairly straight cue
wood to wood joint
3/8 x 10 pin
and no stickers
as of a warranty for get it even if the cue does come with a warranty for a 100.00 its not worth the shipping and hassle.
Cuetec cues are very durable they have fiber glass or resin in the shaft that it is impossible to warp.......

i play with a schon butt/ob classic shaft. my wife has an action cue with dragonflies on it. it hits better than my schon butt/schon shaft combo. her father has a table at his house. we usually just take her cue over there just to save me hauling my big case around and it hits great. i have also played with action house cues and they hit great. if you only have $100 or less to spend. get a plain jane action cue.
