Pocket cut

Alright I've got 2 questions, both pertaining to the same GC3...

1. What is the difference between SS and championship K55? Is there a noticeable difference in speed and in/out angles?

2. Is there an optimum pocket cut angle for 4.00" pockets? We want this table as tight as possible yet still playable. So 4" at the mouth and ??? at the back of the pocket. We will be playing a lot of one-pocket and 9-ball on this table so we need to be able to make balls down the rail.

We're planning on doing this ourselves (educational + economic) so any other information would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Brunswick Super-Speed rubber is manufactured to a K-55 profile. Super Speed is the Brunswick name brand. K-55 is manufactured by a number of manufacturers and refers to its dimentions...height, width and shape. IF the cushions are properly installed the playing characteristics are very similar between Super Speed and the other HIGH QUALITY cushions sold in the market place. The very best option is the Artemis intercontinental 66 cushion (it is a K-55 profile) It's more money but will last longer and is the most consistent cushion IMO.

There is a great thread dating from last April by Glen "Real King Cobra" showing pictures of the process to extend the rail liners on a Gold Crown.
This is a job which should only be attempted by an experienced professional. One wrong move or incorrect cut and you've got major problems!

As far as the angles at the openings of the pockets (53 degrees) something on the order of 51 degrees for the 4.00 inch pockets as far as the down angle something on the order of 12 degrees. I'm being vague here because of the variables such as the facing thickness.

I would strongly advise you seek the help of a professional mechanic for this procedure. Without the proper tools and experiance you might be bitting of more than you know.

Good luck

Thank you for the response.

We will be using the original cushions to practice with before attempting anything with the new ones. If we can't do it, we'll get a mechanic to do it with the real thing...we just figured we can give it a shot. I believe we'll be able to acquire all the tools we need. And we'll have a couple mechanics on call while we're doing it.

I know of the thread you're talking about and we'll be using that as our guide. Thank you to Glen as well for that excellent post.

I also went back and edited the original post. I meant to ask what the difference between the superspeed and the championship tour rubber was...either way it'll be with the k55 profile. I'll look into the artemis cushions as well.

If I understand correctly, you're saying that the pocket cut is more or less an estimation. Is there any way to be certain?
