I've seen guys use their cell phones, chapstick and even a piece of leather with a little half of an 8 ball on it to mark pockets. I'm APA I think you have to use something besides your chalk and coins.

I have an old shark that'll fit in a pocket of your jeans, would that be acceptable (not just humorous) and what do you guys use?

I use a souvenir coin I got from the Alamo (not real currency). It's about the size of a silver dollar, but bronze in color. It has a picture of the Alamo stamped on one side, which is the side I always face upwards.

Maniac (Remember the Alamo!!!)

It's fitting given you're in Texas and I bet it works well.
I didn't think of a souvenir coin...

We seldom mark a pocket any more. Used to get a drink coaster from the bar but have used anything from a piece of chalk to one of the other teams stuffed mascots.

The times I have been involved in the APA and had to mark a pocket, I use a black poker chip with the number 8 on one side.

Last weekend I played in a few of the tourneys and just kinda followed lead. If the opponent marked I did too. I usually just asked if calling the 8 would work or if they preferred marking.

Had a teammate use a gold foil condom as a pocket marker. He called it free advertising.

I used to use a Wooden Indian. I called him Kawliga but he was a little too big to put in my case.

I keep a casino chip in my case, just in case no one can find a marker. They work well. Just don't use a 50 or a 100. They will come up missing.

You can buy one or make your own. I have seen a cut off 8 Ball used to.

Maniac, stuffed baby seals are delicious.

You probably want to use a pocket marker that people will notice.

I'd suggest using a Trojan Magnum XL though if that's not for you, you could use a Golden Circle Coin. People should notice that and realize which pocket you've called.

....LOL :)

Currently I'm using an APA coin that we got for going to states a few years ago.

I've seen all kinds of different things used. Knives, phones, stuffed animals, a marine corps commemorative coin, so many different things that I can't recall now...

During the regular session, we kinda leave it up to each other, "call'em or mark'em?". During playoffs, and especially states, we mark every time. Any time the LO is present...

I played on a team one session named Preparation H.
The captain had a tube of Preparation H for the marker.
Had fun wirh it!

That marker seems like a pain in the ass!
The marker is a pain in the ass, but it is a part of the rules. Usually because our weekly matches are reasonably friendly all of the teams have gotten into the habit of telling the opponent to just call it if they'd like. Personally I'll use whatever is available if forced to actually use a marker. Although it's permissible, I try not to use chalk. I've used a beer, a shoe, a hot dog bun the other teams marker, crumpled up paper. I've reached in the trash can for an empty bottle or an old olive or broken glass. I might us a condiment left on the table, a piece of fruit. One time I took the smallest girl at the bar and had her lean against the table with hands next to the pocket on top of the table (as stated in the rules). My favorite though is from a pool hall we played at some years ago. We got the last order of wings to come out of that place, I took an old bone and boiled it, polished, engraved it, and sprayed it with clear coat. That thing is about 10 years old and I still carry it around. It gets used (as a marker) on occasion

in the places where i play calling the pocket is usually good enough, but when a marker is required i usually use a spare .45acp round.

Table

I don't know why everyone could just use a piece if chalk for a marker. I have had to take the slates out of bar tables for way to many times to retrieve the countless priceless possessions people use as pocket markers and somehow seam to knock into the hole or some how in the table...
I tell the room owners it will save them headache to just have the pool player that looses something in the table but dont jam the operation of play to have them put there name and # on a small piece of paper and fold it up smaller than a piece of chalk so it will fall into the dust collector and drop to the bottom out of the way of play to the bottom..when I have the slate out I will call them to claim it..
-this happens a lot, u'd fall over if u knew the things I have found and been payed to take the table apart to get out...
Thanks everyone for your cooperation&time, hope you understand.
