Has anyone used em? Me n my buddy want to get some. But are they all the same and do they really work. Just looking for spme opinionas and info before I buy any

I use them sometimes when I am missing concentration.

But here is a question to everybody:

What do you think is harder ?
Play every time center pocket with, or without Pocket Reducers (just for training)?

Yes they work great. I don't know how many kinds there are out there but I had the yellow rubber kind with the spring on top. A 5" pocket became 3 5/8", at first they were absolutely brutal even for very easy straight in shots but after playing with them for only a week or so I felt I couldn't miss with regular pockets even "tough" tables seemed easy, I felt I couldn't miss. I never kept it up though and misplaced the tighteners, but they really did work great. The only thing is they're really just a tool for improving shotmaking and concentration, there are some things you can't do like hitting a ball hard (or even soft) down the rail, it just won't go.

The pockets won't play right with those but I have them and they are great for torturing you into focusing on shots...........

I had forgotten about these!

I worked part time for the guy that invented these. (I think he held the patent for awhile) I think they were called "Re-Liners" or something close to that.

We made them in two thicknesses, and two colors...black and natural. They worked great back in the day, but I have not seen any in awhile.

I have the green ones and they do help find the center of the pocket but they reject down the rail shots and a lot of shots that would go if they were the same material as a regular pocket.
But they will teach you to shot soft and focused shots.

I think what we are talking about are thesehttp://www.poolndarts.com/p-5884-Practice-Pro-Pocket-Reducers/

I remember what you are talking about. Anybody else? I would love to get a set. I think they were made out of leather and sat flush in the pocket

I tried them and didn't have much luck on a double shimmed table. They served there purpose but as mentioned above not all shots play right; especially rail shots. I have not tried them with standard sized pockets though.

I have recently used them a couple times on an already tight pocketed table. Simply put.. they will help your game regardless of what level you are. You can see the "halfs" of the pocket if it was orginally big enough and help with those shots that you know are 50/50. Sorry to bring this old topic back, but this thing definitely helped with my game. Its been quite some time since I picked up a cue and this made the game all the more appealing to both my mind and strained trained shoulder!

P.S.

If anybody wants those rail shots to fall..... add some old strands of Simonis cloth or any cloth for that matter to it and it should work just fine! I'll be doing that myself because that has as well became an issue even when hit soft.

Pro Pocket Reducers......Hah!

Whatever you do....do not buy this....it's a trap.....these were invented by Satan.......if you use them, you'll find out what torment and mental anguish are really all about.......talk about frustration levels increasing.....OMG.

BUT.......if you want your aiming skills and ability to pocket pool balls to soar like an eagle, these are the best way to practice. I limit my practice time using the pocket reducers to about 45mins - hour and then I remove the reducers before the paramedics arrive.

After practicing with these pocket reducers and removing them, the pockets start to look like double wide garage doors and you only have to park one car inside.....the pockets start to look huge.

I use the reducers on a 9' Diamond table and it becomes agonizing. You can't force two pool balls to pass between the reducers.......the pocket size probably shrinks to less than 4 inches (corners & side pockets both). If you like to play golf on a pool table, these reducers make playing a game of golf really challenging.

So as I was posting, don't buy these pocket reducers....that is unless your doctor has told you that you suffer from low blood pressure. If that's your medical history, then I promise you that your blood pressure will definitely rise, possibly even soar, when you practice pool using pro pocket reducers.

Balls react a bit incorrectly off of them, but they do make you bare down and focus to make a ball. I wouldnt play racks with them... but they are good for working on accuracy.

This. When I tried playing a rack on them, i would get frustrated because i'd miss anything i tried to put spin on. I'd either miss and get shape or make it and not get shape. Close to the rail shots have to be hit almost perfect. Once you start running a few balls though, it does boost your confidence.

I would say though not to take the bigger pockets for granted when you move to another table. I found myself doing that and missing balls because i figured there was no way i wouldn't make it.

I'm going to measure mine when i get home because they're a lot tighter than your link.

Yeppers. I have some and they make the pockets so tight, they are basically unusable.

The link that Vahmurka posted looks worlds better than what poolndarts offers.

they are basically unusable.
agreed, and not because they make pockets really tight but because they make normal play impossible. They change rail geometry.

I'd better post a picture of those ProPockets I was linking to (some users must be lazy to click a link:rolleyes:)

These are like temporarily shimming your table with no need to redo the rails (which would be proper approach anyway). Good for use in a poolhall too I guess.

A while back there was a thread where someone had made their own pocket reducers... out of those foam pads that you see in pre-schools and the like. Trimmed them up real nice to fit their table.

I'll be darned that I can't think of a keyword right now to find the link :frown:

The ones the OP (in that thread) made actually looked pretty decent. Out of something like this...
