pocket resizing question

I have a Connelly Durango 8 foot table that I'm wanting to relocate, recloth and have the pockets resized to a smaller pocket. I talked to a billiard store owner today and he mentioned 2 things. One most home owners aren't pool players meaning they have the house and get the table because they can. The other is he doesn't nor does he recommend making pockets smaller.

One, I'm a player and want a pro size pocket (not where I can dump 2 balls side by side with extra room)

Two, how hard is it and should it be an issue? I was under the impression you lay the bumpers, cut them a little longer to make the pocket smaller and affix the cloth to the bumper...

So for the quality mechanic, how hard is it to do it right?

Pockets

1. It's your table downbeat you want with it.

2. In the simplest of terms yes it is as sime as you stated. The trouble is that it may seem simple bu with the little knowledge I do posess I would not try this. (If I wanted a top notch quality product). Unless I had the equipment to be able to cut the angles on the ends of the cusions. To do it right the cusions need to be replaced and then the angles recut on the ends and a good facing installed. If you just add shims then you will start jawing more balls that should have fallen.

3.there are several guys that post here that are qualified and have a solid reputation as far as calibration of rails goes. (Resizing pockets). Where are you located there might be a qualified guy close by that can actually come see your table. Otherwise you can ship your rails to them.

I don't want to attempt it myself.

I also don't want it to look like crap either.

The pocket work is really not a problem, but as said before you will more than likely need new rubber on there. While you are getting the pockets made smaller, it would be a good idea to correct the geometry of the pockets as well.

Where are you located? if another qualified mechanc is not closer, Mark Gregory. Accepts rails from all over the country. Donny From SDbilliards handles Soutern California. Get reccomendations from here for a mechanic and you won't be disappointed. It is not cheap but is worth the price in my opinion.

It looks like you are in Phoenix. I would contact the Reverend ( Zack Jonas ) He is very professional and knows what he is doing.

I actually just messaged him. I've had the pleasure of talking by email to him previously but we on a different topic. I am sure he can direct me in the right direction. The issue is I won't have the table set up and ready for the cloth or set up until July/August. I'm just trying to get my ducks in a row before then. :)

Send your rails as soon as you can,
Takes a little bit to get them done...
Get the good rails and subrails calibrated by a pro.
I had my home table done with 4.5 corners and love it.
The only thing I may have done differently is get them down to 4-3/8....
Mark Gregory did a fantastic job!
