i posted a thread earlier when i joined the forums about my table I have at my condo, Its a 10x5 American snooker table, I use this to practice when i cant go to the pool hall.

first question is if i want to measure the pockets on this how would i measure them? there rounded not like they have points like pool tables do.

second as u can see in the pic with the smaller ball, i was using those earlier but now I have decided to use the regular sized pool balls, its not as frustrating as i thought but it is tough especially when im playing the ghost for practice.

can this be bad for my pool game? of course the table doesn't play like a pool table 100% of the time, but I just wanted to know what you guys think? someone told me its not good.

thanks

I think it would be great when the balls are in the middle of the table, awful for those on a rail.

And I wouldn't want to be using small balls, but you would have a better idea of how hard it is to flip back/ forth to standard balls than I...

I wouldn't play with the smaller balls. The table won't hurt your normal shooting game, but without diamonds, you're kicking and banking game will suffer.

Yeh I don't play with the smaller balls anymore, I bought a cheap set of regular sized balls.

Yeah I did notice without diamonds im not able to practice much kicking and banking.

Well many people just kick or bank with feel, some use the diamonds to determine the routes. Personal pref I guess.

Using the pool balls on the snooker table is a great way to tighten up your shot making on a pool table for everything but shots down the rail. Kind of think of it as a shooting range, more so than a table to play games on.

The Diamonds are reference points and it makes a big difference, without them you are guessing less accurately, with them your guesses are more intelligent. To discuss in details the relevance of pocket size and ball size and dismiss the value of the Diamonds makes no since. The more i know about the equipment the better my decisions. If I played on table with no Diamonds i would spend a lot of time dissecting the rail which may improve my banking when on reg table. But there a difference. Change any one thing changes everything... just my thoughtless thought.

The diamonds would not help your kicking and banking...
...the height of the snooker rails are to accommodate American snooker
balls which are two and one/eighth....the larger pool ball will rebound
off the rail at an angle that has zilch to do with a diamond system.

Practice your shot making on this table....it will help a lot.
Anything involving rails will be info that is pretty useless when you go to
a standard pool table.

Snooker pockets are measured at the 'fall'...your pockets are probably
3.5 inches.

See post #9 for more info.

Balls on snooker table

I use regular size pool balls and American snooker size (2 1/8th in numbered set) balls and regulation snooker balls on a snooker table often. They play much differently but either will definitely improve your accuracy and position play. As far as banking there are several very acurate banking methods that you must use because of the lack of and spacing of the diamonds. These are valuable methods and translate easily to a standard pool table. They are as accurate or more so, than using the standard poll table diamonds on standard banks. The rail heights are different but the parctice is still helpful. If you use you standard cue it will help your game no doubt. I happen to use a snooker cue and a regular pool cue. That does create and an issue because switching to a regular size (13mm) shaft and regular sized balls after playing with snooker cue takes a little getting used to. However, from my experience, using pool balls and your pool cue on a snooker table should help your game.

Thanks for the replies guys.

Going to stick with using the standard sized balls, i can get kick and banking practice at the pool halls.
