Pocket Size? Opinions Please

Poolhustler, does your GC1 play like the tables at Hollywood Billiards? Are your rail shots torture? That's the way I want it.

They are tough, but if the shot is hit properly, it will drop even at speed.

You are welcome to stop by anytime and try it out.

I can't see any reason to go any less than 4.5". Maybe that is because I am not as good as some on here though. I agree that it changes your shot selection negatively. I would say get nothing below 4.5", and use reducers during practice if you want to make it harder.

Same as Diamond's pro cuts... 4.5" and 5" (although I measured my side pockets last night and they are 4.875" wide between the points).

I'm about to have my Brunswick Anniversary table set up by Ernesto Dominguez and I'm wondering what size pockets I should get. I've played a lot on the 4'' that he did at Hollywood Billiards and love them, but I'm wondering if I should challenge myself a bit more.
Does anyone out there play with anything under 4" and what's your opinion?
Thanks.

How about pockets like this? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Russian_billiards These have got to be the tightest pockets in any cue sport -- snooker included.

But then again you can forget all about:

1. Shots down the rail (unless you hit them *so* hard that the object ball "bends" the point of the rubber out of the way and pops inside, as many good Russian Pyramid players -- e.g. Evgeny Stalev -- do).

2. Throw shots

3. Englished (side spin) shots

4. ...many other subtleties of the sport of pool, tight pockets of which would no longer make it the sport of pool, but rather snooker or Pyramid.

Something to think about. Hope this is helpful!

The size of the pocket is an average of 4'', but they can get smaller depending on how much money is being wagered...:rotflmao1:

Thanks every body for weighing in. I'm gonna get the 4 inch pockets. With 4 inch pockets you can still cheat the pocket and add as much english as you like. I've played pool for a long time and the tight pockets just keep me more focused and loose. Plus after you play on a tight table a regular table is butter.
I'll post some pictures when it's done. Thanks all.
