Pocket Sizes Pros 4.25

I have an old Brunswick 9 ft table that was made to the BCA standards at the time. 5 1/4 in corner pockets and 1 1/4 ledge. Players come over and laugh saying that it will be easy because of the buckets. They are then surprised because the balls will rattle the pockets and pop out. There are many factors in how tough a table plays. Not as easy as it looks. The depth of the ledge and the angle of entry add to the factor of difficulty.

Based on your experience, as long as it’s enjoyable for you and your friends, that’s all that matters.
However, you sure wouldn’t enjoy playing at the pool halls where I play since the CP are 1” smaller.

As you can see from the photos I took of both 4.25” & 4.5”corner pocket tables at Sierra Billiards
today, 5.25” corner pockets really seem overly generous. But as has been said, to each their own.

The 5 & 10 don’t even come close to squeezing in on 4.25” CP; 8 & 9 ball photo is with 4.5” CP.
The whole purpose of playing pool is for enjoyment. And struggling to make balls isn’t much fun.

I have complete disregard for 7’ pool table, Diamond brand or otherwise, I don’t play on them and
my friends all know that. Just not my cup o& tea but most of my pals do play in leagues so go figure.

a big part of the game for players that are not high level but still play well is having the ability to cheat the pockets for position. rather than have to get the perfect angle to get position on the next shot.

the pros have no problem doing it but the lesser player's game does go way downhill and get frustrating.

pocket sizes and shelf should be standard for all, and let the top pros play on whatever the t.d picks for their tournaments.

None of the pool halls around me in the DC area have tight pockets. I see plenty of casual players, but the reason most miss shots is poor bridging, poor cue holding and poor stroking - as you'd expect. It's not pocket size.

The hall I play in has one GC4 with tighter pockets. The rest are normal.
