Not that It would be easy to do either way, but points would be really hard. Maybe inlays without sharp corners as mentioned, but even that would test most guys. Like Jerry said, maybe honor him using his name, a coin that belonged to him, some other reminder of him, or something the color of his birth stone. Reconstituted stone will work though, and maybe you could find something close to the stuff in looks.
I have thought about using It before Myself, because I've seen some really beautiful pieces for sale cheap, but have yet to try, so who knows, My thought was always that It may not cut well with the tools we use, therefore, may need to be grinded & polished differently. Seems as others feel the same but My thinking is purely based on speculation, as I have not tried yet.
