Poison VX BRK....any input?

I know there have been a lot of jump/break threads but I'm curious if any of you have experience with this particular model? (Poison VX BRK)...seems like they go for about $200 new on ebay. I have never owned anything from Poison but I'm told they are about as close to a Predator BK series as I can get in my price range...plus I like the thought of having the jump cue as well.

Thanks for any info...

I've used a Poison VX 2.9, which is the older model of the VX BRK, and I've used a Poison VX JMP. They are both quality items. $200 new isn't bad, but the Poison does nothing better than a $60 J&J jump break. The final upset for me was that I wanted a dedicated break cue and a dedicated jump cue with an extension.

Ultimately, I bought a Schmelke JB00 (full splice cocobolo into maple w/ purple heart shaft) and a RAT-J2 jump cue (curl maple handle, G10 3/8x10 pin, & a uniloc extension). I paid roughly $300 for both.

I guess a LD breaker is the important part to me....I do have a jump cue but I don't like it all that well (its a frog) and I do have a break cue (cheap rage sneaky 17oz with a water buffalo tip)...

The reason I'm thinking of getting into a new breaker is I borrowed a friends BK2 and really liked it. I was able to load up and really thump the rack and still maintain good control of whitey...I can hit the rack just as hard with my sneaky but I have to back off a good 20% to really keep control of the CB...I'm guessing its something to do with the LD shaft giving me a little margin for error on tip placement when really loading up and smacking it...

I may just get a Poison breaker and later get a jump cue that I like...I was just hoping to kill two birds with one stone (wishful thinking).....

If ur gonna get a break cue get a Alex Brick there 275 shipped and its best break cue I've ever used that's gonna be my next cue

Poison Break Shafts only have the "DD technology" and are not laminated like a Predator BK2 shaft. If the LD is what you are after, buy a BK2 shaft and put it on whatever you want.

You may be assuming too much with the Predator break cue, I don't see anything about the shaft on it being a low deflection one. Sure it's from Predator and has a short ferrule, but you need to find out about the full end of the shaft design before calling it a LD shaft. The web site just states it's a shaft specially designed for the break cue.

Laminated shaft does not equal LD shaft. I'd stay away from a multi-part shaft for a dedicated break cue myself hehe.

I know what does and doesn't equal low deflection. Nothing on the BK2 or Poison cue mentions low deflection. However, that is the purpose of their DD Technology, short ferrules, and laminated shafts.

Edit - I can go into detail, but it's comparing apples to oranges.

Example: A Meucci low deflection shaft has more deflection than a Predator BK2 shaft, so I consider it to be low deflection.

If you liked the BK2 so much then its pretty easy to find a used one for the price range you are looking at.

Good Break and Jump cue and you can use it in two different Sizes. Great Price .. take it !

i would check out Jacoby Custom Cues, they have some excellent breakers in their heavy hitters and edge break cue, which seems to be more what your describing, and also they have the best jump cues on the market in my opinion

Nice 12,75 mm shaft like a 314 cat shaft ...
you can do more technical Break shot
than a fat 13.00 mm shaft.

try it ..cheap break cue Close to the
original cat

I guess if you get one make sure to keep your breaks under 35 mph.

I've had my Poison VX 2.9 for @ 5 years and it's treated me very well. I know other strong players that also like theirs.

But I hadn't played with any other J/B.

I just wanted to chime in on the suggestions for an Alex Brick.

I agree, a Brick J/B is an excellent choice if you're in the market. However, it's not the cue for you. Low deflection or not argument aside regarding the BK2, if your main interest is in a forgiving break cue the Brick isn't it. You need to be able to hit center ball as the deflection from a Dymondwood shaft is quite significant. I'll add this: practicing with the Brick will help you learn to get on the center of the cue ball which, long term, is a better thing.

The choice between BK2 and VX BRK I leave to you (I'd get the BK2). They're both good breakers.

Thanks for the input! Been watching for a used bk2...I would like to try a brick though
