I'm very happy with the cases Joe Whitten makes for me.:)

Good pricing, made in the USA with great quality & materials, friendly service & NO internet drama.

BTW, all that drama back & forth between Jack & John isn't good for either of their businesses. Just makes me want to avoid them both like the plague. It's a shame...... :(

First, start by looking at what a case is supposed to do.
1.protect cues from physical damage
2.protect cues from weather damage-- humidity changes, rain temp changes
3. look good and be functional

So you want a case that is rigid, sealed tightly, and good leather work.

Ron Thomas's cases succeed in all 3 catagories, they are rigid, the seal when closed is one of the best in protecting from humidity, pressure and temp changes, and his leather work is very nice.

Ahem!!!

So many cases, so little money!!! I have seen several cases I would like to own. That Clement case was sweet, terrific tool work on it!

Yes I know. It makes me not want to deal with me either. :-) Actually I don't think that there was much back and forth - I think only one went forth and the other hit back too hard.

But you're right the Whittens are fine fine fine people who do excellent work. And for what it is worth a Whitten is pretty original all the way around. Okay well I don't think they invented zippers but as far as the rest of the case goes I have never really seen one before they came on the scene that is put together in that way. And a further bonus - they don't hang out on internet forums and presumably have a life outside of AZ Billiards. :-)

Clements' cases are pretty sweet. A buddy of mine in DC has a Chas case for his 3-piece that is a tooled version of the one Lou F. posted here: http://forums.azbilliards.com/showpost.php?p=544229&postcount=6. Pretty sweet.

From what I've heard, Chas doesn't really make cases anymore, at least not unless you pay him a big premium. So I had Brian Bonner make a case for my 3-piece cue, and it came out great (see pic below). I'm about to pull the trigger on a full size 2B3S version.

Jack has stuck to facts. John has mouthed off, made light of Jack's designs, and has all but called the man a hack compared to him. Jack has been more than a gentleman. JB has not.

I do not want to take this thread off topic but the very title of that thread is proof that Jack did not just stick to facts.

The one good thing about threads like this is that they let people find out about other maker's cases that they can, if they are like me, go and drool over. Nice to see some of the beautfiul work.

From reading about them and seeing the pictures, if I had the cash to spare, I would get a custom made John Barton. The idea of having a lot of input with regards to styles and materials appeals to me.

That just what I was talking about, I must confess I have never seen a Brian Bonner case before but that looks really nice.

Several years ago Chas Clements injured his hand and has not been able to do leather work. It's possible he never will again... but if he does I am the next on his waiting list. I hope he heals and I am in great hopes of getting a very fancy case from him.

I just talked with Chas Clements, and his injury is nearly healed but he now has some other medical problems but he's working on getting back to building cases. He wants to take some orders later on when he can give accurate delivery times.
I'll keep this forum posted on his progress. He may even chime in here.

I voted for John Barton.

P.S. For anyone who thinks John doesn't give credit where credit is due, this is taken directly from his website.

==========================================================
Thank you for your time,

John Barton, Case Maker

P.S. If you aren't in the market yet for my style of case then I wholeheartedly recommend the following makers.

Jack Justis - Jack makes stunning cases out a variety of leather combinations.
Whitten - Dan and Joe and family make the Jaguar of cue cases.
Jim Murnak - Jim is more my style with his willingness to try new things.
Instroke - My former company and my designs of course.
Sterling - A wide assortment of inexpensive pool cue cases - (made with my input)
Ron Thomas - Ron has revived the It's George and Fellini styles and is making great cases.
On Q Case - Garth Bair is making fine cases and specializes in the inlay designs.

Chas Clements - Chas holds a special place for me. He is a leather artist and casemaker of the highest art.
We collaborated on a few cases while I had Instroke and each one was beyond compare.
This is a sign he made for us back then, notice the intricacy.
If you can get any work done by Chas you will have a treasure for life.

I saw that on his website the other day. I think it shows a whole lot of class on his part.:)

IMO, that is John Barton "A whole lot of class". He is and always has been one of the most reputable people in this sometimes "shady" pool business.

 :D

LOL...point for JB for a little self deprication....

But back to the issue...I'm waiting on my custom Murnak case right now...eagerly I might add.

I'll take an old, beat up, Premier series Instroke 3X7 (yep the vinyl one). Throw some stupid, ugly stickers on it, and never have to worry about it being out of your line of sight for even a split second. I don't have an expensive cue for the same reason. An expensive case seems like even more of a "look-at-me" item than a pricey cue. In case your wondering...no, I wouldn't own a Ferarri either. LOL.

I voted for Barton...

..because I think the cases he is making now are gorgeous and I want one. That being said my current "playing" case is my Justis Pro lite. Love the light weight and the looks and the pockets actually hold more and are easier to use than thos on my Instroke 3 x 7.

To dip OT for a second, as Merlinium said, that other thread was initiated with misinformation from Jack that was never corrected. His blindly loyal supporters continue to fail to recognize that fact.
