Seems to me that nobody likes how the For Sale section has changed. The consensus is that it pretty much sucks ass now. No replies. No conversations. No action. Very boring. Looking at the For Sale Section is like watching dry paint get drier. This forum is only a forum because of the members so it only makes sense that we cast a vote as to what the section should be like. This place used to be entertaining. Lots of conversation. Sometimes some drama. But all in all, it was far superior to what it is now.

What say you?????

After ALL the *****ing and moaning everyone did I am astonished this is even brought up yet again. The horse is dead. Please stop kicking it.

It changed to accommodate ridiculous behavior. There is nothing wrong with it. Just PM your opinions to the OP.

Yes, because it was so enjoyable to read the same comments, "hits a ton" , "can't believe it's not sold", "what a deal, you can't get from maker for this price", "gorgeous cue", "blah blah blah".

Yep, just could not put down the book with material like that ;) And then see the same cue on the front page for weeks. Yes, nothing says fun as seeing the same cues over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over.....................

Funny, now that you can't leave comments, nobody bothers to tell the OP what a great cue it is? Hmmmmmm, why not ?

I like it the way it is now. It's suppose to be a sale section, not a discussion section.

It's perfect the way it is right now. Do you buy a cue because you want to, or because four other people posted that the cue hits a ton, won't last very long...etc, etc, etc...

It's a trading post. Items are for sale. I really don't see the problem. If you have a question about how the cue hits, just pm the seller. If you feel the need to comment and absolutely need everyone else to read all about it, start a thread about that particular cue in another forum.

The changes have only served those that complained and haven't improved the BST section as a whole.

The market here on this forum is considerably down. This really isn't a point of debate anymore, its a reality. Its driven a lot good sellers and buyers to billiard groups on facebook(which are thriving) and I have to admit that's not a location I would prefer over this place.

Its a long way from "perfect the way it is" and a far cry from how active it has been even in down climates.

I don't know what the higher ups are thinking but it does appear that they caved to the demands of the complainers and have basically thrown their hands up with the "this is what you asked for so this is what you're getting" attitude.

Its shame that more trial and error couldn't have taken place.

I've cut my listings here down as a result and I know a lot of others have as well. I hate facebook but this is where I'll be migrating for the time being.

There are a number of changes I've shared previously that would go a long way in restoring the market on AZ.

1. Cue flippers, cue sellers, dealers and cue makers should be afforded their own subsection to advertise independently from the For Sale Forum.

IE - for 200 bucks a year you'll have your own subsection to post your items for sale, share your current work and post to your own gallery. This could be customized in many different ways. These "pay for" subforums have been successful on many other forums. Your own little retail/advert area.

They can still use the BST forum but this gives them another provenance here on the forum to showcase from.

In the For Sale forum -

2. Install a mod that allows posts but prohibits the posts from bumping the thread.

3. Install an autobump feature. Each thread will autobump every 72 hours for a limit of 90 days or until sold. Gold members and "pay for" subforum members will receive autobumps at every 48 hours.

4. If you wish to pay for your listing (a dollar or two a listing) it will autobump every 24 hours for a limit of 90 days or until sold.

5. Install a mod that allows the OP to change the thread to "SOLD". Which locks the thread.

These few changes will control the bumping without stifling the conversation. The subforums open up a stream of revenue and allow those who want to pay a place to showcase their work. I know I would pay for one.

I think it's fine now. All the BS "buddy" bumping with "super deal" ,hits 4000lbs, won't last etc sucked and made the task of looking for something brutal. It also was why you posted up a sale and 3 hours later it was 10 pages deep.

I sell many guns on a Pa. gun owners site and they have VERY strict sellers rules like no comments, min 3 day bumping, MUST have pricing, or trade info, and there is probably 8 or 10 times the traffic there as to here....it all goes smooth as silk.

IMO the sale section should be just the info to sell the product only....there are plenty of places to talk about the other stuff here.

The reason it feels dead because the cue market is dead.

It's funny that the only thing keeping the cue market alive are people bumping, breaking the rules and commenting.

It's a false sense of reality. Now that the BS is cut out, we've truly seen what the market is.

Its really a simple fix. Install a mod that prevents posts from bumping the thread. The comments weren't the issue. The comments bumping the threads were.

Funny how strong the billiards markets are on Facebook. Yes the bumping does create a perception that things are slow but ask anyone who regularly moves product and they'll tell you that its not just a down market as a whole but that the activity has migrated to other outlets.

Facebook is a mess and a lot of us don't like navigating that platform but that's where the buyers and sellers are doing business.

The BS being cut out pushed the market to another platform...that's what's truly happened.

I'd like to see the For Sale, Wanted and eBay Sales re-incorporated.

But I like the "no comments" aspect. I don't sell much but it's very unfair and frustrating when your listing ends up on page 4 after two hours and 3/4s of the listings ahead of yours aren't new...they just have people commenting with "Nice cue. Hope you sell it." "Beautiful cue! Wish I had the money" and so on.

The comments added NOTHING to the listing. No specs, no information, no nothing...just bumping a friends listing. It's an advantage to those who "live" in the For Sale section, but screws anyone else.

I do agree with you but there are times where comments serve a purpose. Especially when the regulars are exposing someone who's doing business under an alias or has bad dealing in other areas.

Sometimes hearing from the previous owner of a cue is a good thing. Comments from cue makers and the guys here with big time cue knowledge adds tons of real value to the cue market.

The key is not to stifle the conversation but negate the ability for those comments to bump the thread.

I'm sure you'll see that installing a mod which allows comments but doesn't allow the thread to be bumped will result in a lot less useless posts and a much higher quality of content.

Just address the real issue. The bumping.

no idea why in a year or two For Sale section become dead///

I remember it used to be very fun

We all know the REAL reason why heads want the old format.

You're not THAT smart...knock it off!!....lol!

I say keep it the way it is.

If heads are so 'in need' to discuss a cue or 'learn' about the cue, then why dont people just copy and paste the link and start the talk in the main forum with NO restriction on posting/replying/bumping?

Or in one of the cue subforums, start a convo there.

Or put in a request to have a subforum created for people that just wanna 'talk about cues'.

Just a suggestion.

Its a matter of comfort. For starters not everyone likes the Facebook format. Its certainly not built around ecommerce and there's no rating system in line like itrader.

Its a great platform for social media and connecting with friends but its not built to function like a traditional forum market is.

However to address your very first line its considerably stronger. Particularly in the 500 and less range.
