Pool Ball Collecting.

Those Vitalite balls are truly beautiful, Mr B.

Behold that lustre! Such depth of shine puts many modern sets to shame.

The 2-1/8 in. balls, what, where or on what table are they used?

.
My set formally belonged to a gentleman who told me they were the only balls he and his family had ever played on their family table (46" x 92"). They bought them new with the table. The balls taught me one thing: all the small balls ever made belong in England.

I'll try to get a real answer to your question, but in the meantime, I fully endorse what Bob said.

I had an inkering it wasn't normal US size. Thanks.
.
Since my introduction to pool back in the early 60s I've only seen the 2-1/4 in. size.
The (BP) bumper pool table we had in the late 50s the balls were a little smaller.
I compared the BP to pool balls using a straight edge, (guessing 50+ years later) pool balls were ?-ish larger.
Just checked the Net and BP balls were 2-1/8".

Floyd,

According to the founder of this thread, there are no games in England which use 2 1/8" numbered balls. Bob is correct in that a 2 1/8" ball is used in American Snooker but I have not been able to find examples of play which used the numbered 2 1/8" balls like the set I posted above.
A.E Schmidt offered the 2 1/8" Vitalite balls in their 1981 catalog and Brunswick and Saunier-Wilhem offered 2 1/8" phenolic resin snooker balls but I haven't yet found an offering of a 2 1/8" numbered phenolic resin ball. SALUC currently offers a numbered 2 1/8" 15-ball set which is readily available. So far, the best I can tell is that the 2 1/8" numbered balls were primarily used in this country while playing traditional pocket billiard games. I'll keep searching. If anybody here knows anything about an answer to Floyd's question, please post it.

What’s amazing to me is how much difference there is between America & proper English snooker balls. That 1/16” is a lot more than it sounds like it would be.

While the numbers piss me off on American balls, I played much better with them over the years. Adapting to the smaller balls was difficult. With a proper snooker cue or pool cue.

Best
Fatboy

So far, thanks for info.
.
Several years ago I picked up different new sets of balls. One set is the 2.125 Aramith (ORNG 5).
Took'm to a teammates home (secretly switched) to see if the team noticed anything different. Took a couple of 8-Ball games before someone fouled & picked up the cue ball. He thought there was something different but didn't catch on. (*)
Couple games later we went back to the 2.25 balls, that's when we really noticed the differences.
So if we don't pre-compare, we notice little to nothing. Of course pro's would know immediately.
.
(*) Teammate has a coin 8' Valley & the 2.125 cue ball doesn't separate.

(sheeesh the typo's)

Good afternoon, gentlemen.

A Canadian fellow contacted me to ask a few questions about his Cardball v2 set from 1989.

There is no box or cueball, but he is keen to sell the set to a collector. As I already have both the v1 and v2 I promised to make others aware that his set is available.

If anyone is interested, please send me a PM and I’ll pass on the owner’s details so you can negotiate privately.

Best wishes.

Here’s an interesting set from an historical viewpoint, gentlemen.

A set of 1949 phenolic spots and stripes, cast by the Composition Billiard Ball Supply Company of London. 2 and 1/4 inches.

The shiniest set of balls I have ever seen… like mirrors. My photograph does not do them justice.

I am convinced this is the most rare set of the modern era. Predator Arcos. NOT Arcos II. Not sure how, but one just came available on the big auction site...
