pool causes arthritis?

:D OK- maybe it's not THAT serious, but I've noticed that ever since I switched over to an open bridge, I place a ton more stress on my index finger when I bridge. Over the past 2 years of open-bridged bridges (lol) the joint on my index finger has gotten bigger and now hurts with simple movements. I've been in PT for a torn ligament and sprained wrist for the past month, and the PT noticed my index finger and did a little "test". He said that if I don't change my bridge, I may develop arthritis down the road. Do any of you "open-bridgers" have this problem?

I have know several older players who complain of "Tennis Elbow" after playing pool for extended periods and back aches, but both are probably directly attributable to age and not Pool ...
Pool, however, can be responsible for unrest on the homefront ...

I'm not so sure pool causes arthritis. I do know from first hand experience if you have it, even a mild case it can be very painful to play at times. There are days when I can't make a complete closed loop finger bridge but I have found a few ways to work around it. It's worth noting that a Dr I see for it says that my regular playing even when it hurts like hell is good because it is helping keep my fingers, hands and wrists limber..basically keeping the condition from getting worse than if I wasn't playing etc. Ibuprophen and hot water soakings of my hands help miminize the pain a lot too btw:)

> I think maybe it is in my case. My index finger on my bridge hand bends at a firm 90 degrees, and the joint has gotten bigger over the years. I can feel scar tissue wrapping around the joint as well. The middle finger on my bridge hand bends backwards slightly from the pressure of my bridge, and occasionally I get weird sensations from it,like the joint feeling like it's starting to get weak. I just deal with it. Tommy D.

We must adapt to our aches and pains. See if you can change something that helpes your hand, but doesn't disrupt your game. good luck
