Pool cues stolen!!

It's gotta be someone you know. How many poolplayers do you know that know where you live? How about your neighbor? For someone to steal only your cues, you've gotta look thru the people who play pool around you, and your neighbors. Those would be the usual suspects.

Thank you

Well first off I would like to thank everyone in our little pool community here for all of your help and support. Especially, JC, Steve, and Kerry for their phone calls, emails, PM's and help in trying to find me a new Z, it is TRULY APPRECIATED, and I hope I can find one.

There is a little bit of hope. The police officer handling this case called me this morning (way too early--doesn't he know I stay out all night playing pool?), and asked me if I recognized a name. I didn't, but it did sound kind-of-sort-of-vaguely familiar. At least maybe, possibly he has a lead or two. I will keep ya'll updated and keep hope alive--both for the recovery of my cue, and/or finding someone generous enough to sell me their Z. :D

Again, I can't thank you all enough.

Peaceout
~DC

Best of luck. I truly hope they find the bastard and your cues are still in tact.

Regards,
Dave

Bump. This thread needs continued viewing.

Seems like the student union might be a good place to notify.

Yeah, I'm still at my first impression. It was someone that you know who knew you would be away or could see you leave. AND, Someone who knew what the sticks were ~ Average Joe have no clue on the value of sticks.

AND mostly, someone who knew where they would be. How did they know that you would not be taking them with you IF they didn't see you leave or know where you were going? Is it possible that it is someone who you invited into your home that knew where they would be.

Hate to be so accusing of "Friends" but I smell a rat here. Know anyone desperate for $$$ who could find a place to sell these at?

Just an observation ~ not an accusation ~ trying to be of some help to you.

Wow, here's hoping for a happy ending. We're sweatin' it with you, Craw.

Wow!...the cops are actually investigating this!!???!! But what about the pot smokers?...and Martha Stewart?... :p

So sorry about your loss. I'm just down the road from you a piece, so I'll keep an eye out for the cues. It would be a miracle if I saw one, but you never know, do you?

I'm with some of the rest here...it's someone who knows you (you may not know them very well, but they know you and your patterns). I've been buglarized about 5-6 times in my days and it was always someone who knew my behaviors and exploited them to his advantage.

Do you own a gun? I thwarted some punk home robbers recently by brandishing my weapon as they were attempting a break-in. You should've seen those little bastards run! I hope I made 'em think a little about the consequences of going into someone's home uninvited...but...sigh...probably not. A gun is NOT for everybody, but when people know you have one, they think twice about putting themselves in the position of facing down the barrel.

Another thing, don't let the creep(s) make you feel any blame. It is NOT your fault that your unlocked door was crossed. Some like to blame the victim so they can justify their crimes more easily. Screw 'em....you did nothing wrong.

Good luck,

Isn't Western Illinois University there? Where theres a school, theres potential. Start looking around their student lounges. Ask questions. Ask about the "better" players and their cues.
Now your on the right track. It is someone you know or knows you!

Its not Western Illinois University. Urbana/Champaign is home of the University of Illinios, The fighting Illini... I personally never liked U of I anyways... bunch of snobs....

Crawdido,
Hope you recover the cues intact. I know how it feels to be ripped off.

Thanks Erik. I remember when somebody ripped you, it was a check sent out and never heard from him kind of thing, right? Well, I'm guessing you never got it back, sorry to hear it.

Crawdaddio's dilemma made me rethink an idea I had several years ago, where if your cue got separated from you (your case?) a device would beep letting you know about it immediately.

I thought of this 10 years ago when some guy tried to walk out of a bar with my cue but we caught him in the act. However, the technology wasn't really there yet.

So this story pops up in my email this morning and I thought if any of you cuemakers have done this or considered doing something along the lines of these guy in this story? I think it would add tremendous value to the higher-end cues.

Dumbing down a smart watch
Wired News

"Human memory is imperfect, so an RFID-enabled smartwatch that keeps
track of the easily lost items in your world could be a boon. The
tricky part is making sure the watch doesn't remember everything. At
his lab in Seattle, Gaetano Borriello and his University of
Washington team have built a working prototype of a smartwatch that
operates using radio frequency identification tags to help people
keep track of their stuff. The device is destined to become an
application for the memory-challenged but is being designed with
privacy rights in mind." (11/29/04)

Hey Crawdaddio,

Sorry to hear about your loss. Im feeling for ya. Keep your hopes up and keep looking. You got some good advice in this thread. I agree that if you create enough buzz in the pool halls, someone may give it up.

I hope you find it buddy.

getting back your cues

might be a bit late but for your next cues...
I have a few photos of ALL of my good cues...with weights and descriptions of each...
if ever stolen ..I have all info to give to the COPs and you MUST filE AN OFFICIAL REPORT and then you may get them back,,,I gave this info to a friend and guess what ? he found someone in a bar with his cue, he simply called the cops and gave them his report number and HE EVENTUALLY GOT HIS CUE BACK!!!!!

Another thought you might all keep in mind - if you have a custom cue. As a custom cue builder, I have on record the specs, prices, and pictures of all the custom cues I have been building since I got the digital camera. So if you haven't kept a record for yourself as AJRACK than you maybe able to get this information from the custom cuemaker - its just an fyi. And God knows I don't want you to ever need to do this. As a player for more years than some of you have been alive, I have had my share of cues disappear - pool room, bars, car - it really hurts and I don't mean $$$!!!

Ain't that the truth, when you get ripped off it really undermines your faith in mankind. I always figure it's their bad karma, all I lost was some things, they lost a piece of their soul.

Good thoughts, Steve...I agree wholeheartedly, yet mankind, as a whole, is getting better and better in the long run, regardless of the jerks of the moment.

The shortcut artists I've met are really weak inside from constantly reinforcing the fact that they can't make it on their own. It is sad that some choose such an existence when happiness is so widely available from rational, moral actions.

Crawdad, I'm still keeping my eye out for your cues and have passed around the picture to some players.

It surprises me that anywhere I go for pool, bars or parlors, I see guys leave their cue and case while they go to the restroom or to the snack bar. I used to feel weird taking my cue to the restroom, but after reading these tales of theft I don't feel so odd anymore.

Never, never take your eyes off of your stick. That's the number one rule about pool cues.
