Pool gambling jargon, and slang

I am always being approached to play pool for money, and need an answer to a simple question about gambling jargon, and slang.

What is the correct term[/i] I need to know for a game of 9 Ball when I want my opponent to give me the opportunity to win be sinking the 7, 8, or 9 Ball before they sink the 9.

last question is are there web site links with a list of pool slang terms so I do not sound like a complete novice?

That would be "the 7 out".

That's usually called "getting the 7 out." You have to be careful to say it exactly right though, or it won't work"

Repeat after me

I .... need .....the... six ....out.

I get this spot from a couple local champs and one of them is a filipino and he calls it "the 7 up" But I've heard "The 7 out" more often.

I always clarify that the balls are "wild" on the break meaning I can win if I pocket any of them on the break.

Also I like to mention that if they pocket one of my money balls on a push out it's respotted.

Hippiepool and I rabidly disagree on just about everything under the sun...

But on this, he's right. If you've haven't spent enough time around pool halls to know how weight works, then you won't be able to win with that weight.. In fact, your opponent will probably be able to lay down enough to make it seem close, but it won't be.

I also hear it as "the 7-8". To me, "the 7 out" seems somewhat redundant as the 9 is already a winner. For example, does anyone say "the 8 out"?

I too would have to ask for the "7 out wild".

I was talkijng to Eric Hjorliefson a while back about regional differences in the details. He said that in Winnipeg, "getting the 7" means getting the "7 out wild."

Just goes to show you've gotta clarify the details--

So in Winnipeg what do they call it when you get the 7?

Absolutely! If you can't talk the talk, you probably can't walk the walk. And they'll be killin' themselves trying to get to ya.

You are right, Pushout but I made a ton of cash in the 70s telling people, Willie Mascara, taught me to play pool. Like you say, they did line up.

Nice hustle... now I know what to say!

Go ahead and play!!!

I don't think that it's true that you shouldn't be playing. Does anyone know how the person plays that he is mathcing up with, maybe the person he is playing is just average but has been hanging out in the pool hall for a lot of years so he knows the language? Maybe they are playing real cheap sets so they can improve there games. Not everyone is out to rob people.

"out" i.e. 5 "out", 7 "out" usually means that ball plus all the rest. You need to clarify if they are "wild" or in "order". Wild means you can win by a combo on any one of your spot balls. in "order" means it has to be the lowest numbered ball on the table.

On a side note, if you want to get any kind of spot you want, all you have to do is say "I play APA" and you'll usually get the nuts.

But remember, mark your pocket.;)

That is a good one, belmicah. To add to that, "I am a 5 but could be a 6 any time I want to."
