Pool Hall Rates: One for the Price of Two?

epicures said:
To be clear, the $30 estimate was for two hours (charged double time), not for one hour. It's normally something like $8 per person per hour in the evenings, if I remember correctly. I think their rates are actually not bad at all for what you get; it's just the charging double for one person that gets me.

Anyway, thanks for your thoughts, guys. Like I said, I really enjoy playing at Amsterdam, so I'll probably try for weekends in the daytime next time, when it's not likely to be so crowded. And junior718, I do want to check out Skyline sometime. Thanks for the suggestion.

Andrew

Thanks for clarifying that. I missed the two hours for $30. :o
Still a pretty significant amount of money.

Be careful what you say on these forums, you might find yourself getting bared for sharing your personal opinions. ;)

AZE,

All of these very short posts with a billboard sized picture and seven lines promoting your business could easily be seen as trying to advertise your business without paying for it or plain spamming the board too.

I need a few business cards right now, five hundred or a thousand because I usually find that I want to change them before I give out more than a few hundred. Had you been a bit more discreet in your advertising I would have talked to you. Since you have one of the more annoying signatures on the site I'll shop elsewhere. Except for voting with my wallet this isn't any of my business but you might give some thought to how many potential customers you may be annoying instead of attracting.

This is a sound business practice period. We had to go to an hour minimum because we would get a single player on a Friday night, for example, that would stay for 20-30 minutes, pay $2.40 or so and leave. Meanwhile, while he was on the table, we lost a party of four and a party of six because they didn't want to wait. When the overhead is as high as it is to place 25 tables in a room, it is wise to do what it takes to survive. Otherwise, the place closes, as so many have, and no one plays pool.

NOTE: As far as AZE's advertisements are concerned, they don't bother me a bit. I wish people would stop hating on the small guy and focus on the big boys (Mueller) that jump in on any post that even resembles a possibility for a sale. At least with AZE you can ignore his signature if you want to. A rep from the big boys mentioned above forces product and services down your throat at every chance possible.

I just don't see how AZE's signature can annoy anyone. At those prices and with the quality, I'm glad he made it obvious what his business is.

Dang, I've got it made, I play on 9' diamonds and being a regular I pay 4.00 to 5.00 a day. I've played on a weekend from noon till about 7 and it's like 5.00. Went on vacation and hit a hall in orlando and it was like 15.oo for a couple, three hours. The other hall in town charges 5.00 from 11am until 5 pm during the week and they have diamonds and brunswicks. Boy, it's good to be home

We have a place on Hollywood by Dixie Rd. called "Gold Crown" that has a special from 10-7 (I believe) that costs $5. GREAT tables. I really should play there more often.

Also a place in Davie (stirling + university) called "Beyond Billiards". They have some good prices, specials - good food, and a couple GC's. It's a nice place.

P.S: ShootingArts, why don't you just PM me, instead of junk-posting in a thread about something completely different. I'm sorry to hear that you don't want to do business with me over my forum signature. As silly a reason as that is.
You are the first 'potential' client to say anything, none the less, I modified the sig. And FYI, I do pay for advertising on the site. ;)
I hope you resolve your irritation issues.

Best of luck,
- Aze.

your ad's

AZE,

Your ad's take up most of this page. I find all bulky signatures irritating as many others do. There have been threads on the subject, do a search if you are interested.

My post was actually meant in a friendly way, the same way we tell a newcomer that he is shouting when he uses all cap's.

As for the other guy, I don't care if AZE is large or small, it is the size of his signature which is currently taking up over half of this current page that I find an irritation. I find the same commercial airing ten times in one TV show equally annoying.

I play in Sacramento at Hard Times and The Jointed Cue ... They both have a monthly membership for under a $100 and you can play as much as you like, except in the Tournament Room when it's busy ...
I really want to play at least once at Amsterdam Billiards just to say "I was there" ... I emailed them last week about buying one of their Shirts, but no response has been forthcoming ...

I'm certain some of you remember "a-dime-a-rack" back in the day ... but then I was making .35 cents an hour bagging groceries ...

I remember similar rates , I guess its all relative now , I was hopping on the blueberry bus and off to the blueberry farm to hand pick berries for .10 a pint.

Joey,
Who's the guy from Buffalo? Might be someone I know. you can pm me if you like, or post it.

Now THIS...is having it made...

My home pool hall is Markley Billiards in Norristown. It's the pool hall closest to the Expo in Valley Forge too...so when the greatest show on earth comes 'round every year...it's just 4 miles down the street.
Markley's has 14 Gold Crown's...$1.25 hot dogs...$4.20/hour per person table time at all times...and a special Monday through Friday where you can shoot pool from 9AM until 4 or 5 PM for $6. There's a lot of times where I've shot 40 hours of pool in a week, and fed myself the entire time...and not spent $50. On Monday nights they have ladies night where the gals shoot for free...and they run the special on Sunday's too...pool from 9AM to 2PM is just $6.

The place isn't the fanciest in the world...but it more than gets the job done.

Since you mentioned it (and I apologize for my off-topic post)... Ever since someone suggested using the "Ad Block" feature in FireFox, I've been blocking images left and right. AZE's signature image is no longer seen on my screen (no offense, AZE). I wish I could block individual signatures, instead of blocking all or nothing.

I agree that "eye catching" font and non-pool related signature images are an annoyance. Thankfully, not that many posters have these types of signatures. It would be nice if non-pool signatures were limited to, say, one line, standard font, and a link to a web-page so that someone who's interested can find out more.
