I 've been playing pool for the last 12 years in my basement, religously watching and learning on espn. Allen Hopkins is a great analyst and a great teacher ! I just want to go out and play. I dont want to play teams, I dont want to play doubles. Can you join a league and play singles ? I've e-mailed the APA about a month ago , still no responce. What can I do ? I been told I've got a great game! Pool is like an addiction to me, just have to play. Looking to get started in Indy. Thanks, sincerely Mean Mr. Mustard .

there was (last i heard) a singles snooker, straight pool and one pocket league at airport billiards on west washington street(just west of 465 and just north of the airport) in indy...call up there and talk to david or jeremiah, they can help ya...

Mean_Mr_Mustard,
There is a pool room in Terre Haute. You'll get ALL the playing you need from players of different levels. The name is Q Club. 1958 N 25th Terre Haute , IN 812-231-8560. There's a Scratch Tournament Jan 15. $18 to get in. $100 added. Race to 5. Double Elim. Loser Breaks. 9footers. Come on down. We're looking forward to have fellows from Indianapolis coming on down. Bring a buddy or 2! You'll have fun... guaranteed.

Indy

You may want to contact John Schoonveld. He is the APA League Operator in Indy. I know that if he had gotten the message, he would have called you back. You can reach him by email at JSchoonvel@aol.com. If you can't reach him, please let me know. I am a League Operator just to his North (Muncie, Anderson, Marion, Kokomo and Ft Wayne) and I can at least get you started.

APA is a great place to start and offers many opportunities to play. Make sure you contact one of us.

Thanks
Tammie Jones

CondimentMan,
If you are interested in playing any on the northeast side, PM me; maybe we can play some after DCC.

Executive Billiards on the East side is my favorite place to play. I drive up there from Bloomington every couple of weeks because that place is so nice. If you want to go up there and shoot sometime, PM me. Also if you want to come to Bloomington, I work at the poolhall there so you can play for free.

Wait a minute, he’s not all inclusive …or is he. You seam to imply he is above and beyond Lord Ketchup and Sir Relish. What is the rank and file of condiments anyway?

Finger-man,
WHATTT!!!!! You mean there is a condiment other than mustard????? Praise the lord, and pass the mango relish.

Actually the Condiment Man seems to have posted once and disappeared. I wonder at his commitment to pool fanaticism. Of course, anyone with more than 1,000 posts is a freaking addict, and should be placed in confinement out of hand.

They must have REALLY updated the Executive if its a nice place to play now. Last time I played there,,, well,,, it was not so nice :) Dont get me wrong, I enjoyed it there, just not what I think of when I think nice poolroom.

Fender, you need to come up to Terre Haute and check out the new room. It is a nice environment with some great tables to play on.

Wood-man,
Well, I've heard that Executive has only gone downhill the past few years (though I haven't been). I think The Fender likes the earthy, seedy atmosphere of the poolrooms in "The Hustler" (since I think he also likes Airport Billiards).

Of course, I could be wrong - he's been to Betmore's Basement, but I think Excecutive must just be a nicer place - he didn't actually compare.

P.S. - You still have a standing offer for pool in Indy - let me know if the urge strikes you.

P.P.S. - Let me know if you are at all interested in straight pool league next year (starts October 12th, but who's counting?) - JL and JB just totally dominated the league this year, but everyone tried to raise the level of their game a bit. I've shown tremendous improvement - all the way up to "sadly mediocre" at this point (hoping for "well below average" by next season).

Finally I met some one who likes the Executive Billiards on keystone Ave.It has personality and I like that place:cool:

I am interested in the league, but have gone back to work so when things get closer let me know times and things so I can see what I can do. I have been playing more straight pool, and one pocket is gaining around here.

The owner of our new poolroom is talking about having a one pocket tourney, Im trying to get him to do a straight pool tourney as well. Shall I contact you if he puts either one together?

I STILL want to come over and play one of these days, but this working stuff stinks LOL. Course I dont work too much.

I was warming up for a ninball tourney a few weeks ago (I like to play straightpool to get loose) and I ran an 80. Granted it wasnt a game so I could take more risks, but Im really starting to like this game :D

Woody,
CONGRATULATIONS on the 80 - quite an accomplishment (I've still not broken 50).

I'll let you know in the Fall if there are league vacancies.

I might be interested in any 9-ball, one-pocket, straight pool, Irish billiards, snooker, or 8-ball tourneys if they are on a Friday or Saturday. The only problem is my mother lives in Terre Haute, and I will be the world's worst son if I visit and then ignore her by spending the day in a pool hall (but I might do it anyway, this pool thing is an addiction).

We have an open 9ball tourney every other Sunday, loser breaks race to 5.
Every Friday night is a race to five winner breaks handcap nineball tourney. The handicap is balls, so it is a tough and fun tourney. The handicap goes from 3 to 10. If a 10 plays a 9 the 9 gets the last two, and 8 would get the last 3, a seven would get the last 4. You get the picture :D

I really enjoy this tourney because its fun to try and outrun the spots. It has actually helped me to start playing better again. There are NO easy matches so I have to play hard every time.

Our Monday night tourney is similar, but its single elimination race to seven. Instead of giving the last three we have to give wild balls! I won a couple weeks ago, had to give my last opponent the five out LOL. Its been great because I had never tried giving up weight like that and I am finally finding out that I can, IF I PICK MY OPPONENTS RIGHT :D

Woody

Let me know if you want to come up for a Friday evening tourney, I will make sure Im there (not like I miss being there very often)

Fender, myself and IUAmesMister have been to the Q-club in Terre Haute and I think I can safely saw we all give a big thumbs up. Very nice room, nice tables and nice people. Just wish it was a little closer to me. Btw Fender is a fan of the more "earthy" poolrooms. I can appreciate that too as long as a place cares about their players and keeps their tables in top shape I could care less about what it looks like. However, there is something to be said about the upscale poolroom as long as pool is taken seriously there.

Woody is a little modest....

Woody provides lessons there, and all levels of play and action available. Woody will play anything, and there are one pocket guys, 9 ball and bangers.

If you want to gamble its there, if not, they leave you alone too, no pressure.

Food is good, and beer is cold.

What else would you want? Come on down to Terre Haute.
