I had a tremendous evening of pool yesterday with sjm and a mutual friend he is visiting. He is here on his annual pilgrimage to the heartland before the Peoria tournament.
We had a great meal and discussion of some of the history of the game, and some of the current, "burning" IPT issues. We had time for a few minutes of 3-cushion billiards, followed by a quick game of 14.1 (he doubled me up on a tight Diamond with the crazy IPT cloth - I was uncomfortable to say the least). His play was superb, and he was kind enough to show me some interesting shots and (dare I say) more interesting defensive theories/positions.
I can't wait for the Peoria tournament to start. I'm hoping to sweat a few matches with sjm (I believe I would qualify as someone woefully deficient in knowledge of the kicking/safety/defense aspect of 9-ball at which he is so expert), and maybe catch a few meals at the Burger Barge and Bob Evans.
