pool injuries

A friend of mine came straight to the pool room from work. He normally wears tennis shoes to play but this day he had his leather sole shoes on and, sure enough, he stretches across the table for a shot and out go his feet from underneath him.

Busted his chin open and knocked him cold. The owner was more upset the guy bled on his table than if he was hurt or not.

From then on, we called him "Stretch".

Must have effected his memory too, because I overheard him telling a young lady he was hitting on how he got the scar on his chin from a fight he got into. I mumbled something about his fight record being Stretch-0, Gold Crown-1 and he shut right up.

Other time, I mishit a break shot and the cue ball shot about 15 feet across the room and hit this beautiful blonde right in the noogin.

Must have knocked her brains out because four years later she married me.

The worst place I ever got hurt playing this game was in my wallet.

Well guys with all these injuries i see now why Earl wears all that padding ...:D :D :D

I've hit people with my breaks- and smacked my hand against the table. Thats the extent of my pool injuries.

has anyone ever hurt them self playing pool, the only thing i can think of would be somebody pulling a muscel on a break:confused:

1) pulled rotator cup muscle - old age lack of stretching?
2) busted knuckle on edge of table
3) cut hands from nails backing out of Brunswick pockets
4) bruised gut.....playing in boots on tile, streched for shot, foot slipped and slammed table with gut.....don't tell anyone.

ok.. i will start with the injuries that happened to me..

got hit with a cue ball before.. also hit other people (during breaks.)

what the worst was when your streching over a corner pocket to reach a shot and like mentioned before.. your feet slip.. and then bam.. the ole BALL BREAKER NUT CRUCH on the coner pocket.. yes.. it left it incompasitated for a few minutes.. lol.. hell.. sometimes if you lean over the corner pocket the right way and not even fall you can hurt your junk..

now for what happened to other people, i watched a huge muscle guy get into with a smaller army type dude, the smaller guy was like.. i dont want to fight you.. i dont want any problems..and he tried to walk away for atleast 5 minutes and the big guy wouldnt let it go.. and as smaller guy started to walk away, the big huge guy grabbed him.. and no sooner did the smaller guy spin around, punched him hard in the nose enough to break it and the huge guy
, just like in the movies flew backwards and landed on the table.. and bled everywhere.. i never seen so much blood from a nose before..

in the same pool hall, there was one table that was oddly placed.. so we had contest to see who can run from the length of the pool room.. probably about 15 tables long spaced apart pretty good and run and jump over the table without touching it.. i never tried it because i didnt think it could be done.. i seen people try and dive over it, high jump over it and nobody ever made it, i seen some spectacular body crash's.. nascar would have been proud! :)

i seen so much more.. but thats all i can think of for right now..

I was playing in the finals of a local tournament a few years ago. I was playing well, and there were alot of people watching. I'm shooting either the 7 or 6 ball, a cut where I have to stretch quite a bit with the corner pocket basically between my legs. Yep, you guessed it. My foot slipped, and my family jewels hit the corner pocket hard. I stood up and first felt embarassed for slipping, and then incredible pain hit me within a few seconds. I scrunched up my face all of a sudden and bent over, dropped my cue and clasping my pelvis area. My face was bright red. Man oh man did that hurt!!! I took a 15 minute break and sat down at the other end of the pool room waiting for the pain to subside. When I came back to continue the match, on the next rack that I break, I am about to get down on the break shot and my friend shouts out "He sure can smash those balls!" I stood up and the entire place was filled with laughter. I lost the match, and it was quite painful!!!

I did #4 above while wearing a pair of dress shoes with leather soles. Feet shot out from under me and I came down, uh doodads first, right on the corner pocket cap. Went down in a heap and had to work real hard not to throw up. Never thought I'd have to wear a cup to play pool. My playing partner almost wet himself laughing.

Brian in VA - working on balance at the table ever since....

how about #5???
i'm probably the only guy to ever do this:
was talking to a friend or something, not really paying attn to what was happening at the table
my buddy said it was my shot
i turned around, closer to table than i THOUGHT i was
and NUTTED myself on the corner of table!!!!!!!!!!
oh god, took me right to my knees
a few people saw it, they got a big chuckle out of it
i wear a cup now when playing pool  kiddin'

Wrong Place, etc.

I got smacked across the back with a cue intended for the guy standing behind me, he ducked and I caught it in the back. Chased the guy around three tables until some grabbed me...still gunning for that SOB.

When breaking 9-ball, I occasionally lift my stick up into my chin. That always hurts. Yeah on the jewels too. I stopped wearing sandals to play pool because of that for years. Now, if I think I might slip I just take them off. Not like my feet are going to get any dirtier.:)

Bad One

A few months back a guy rammed a cue through another guys eye at a local pub. I can't remember for sure but I think the guy died or had brain damage. It was on the news. NOT COOL!

Good thing the pockets were rejecting balls that day.

A few years ago when I was playing 4-5 nights a week, I started to aggravate my elbow by breaking hard. Then there was the time I reached into a pocket to retrieve the balls and "found" a staple that had broken off. Ouch.
