Pool Lessons

I am considering taking some lessons from a professional instructor. I seem to have hit a plateau in my game. I haven't noticed a difference in my play in quite some time, despite endlessly shooting drills. My shot-making improves, but I lack cue ball control, and the ability to pick good patterns. I've come to the conclusion that I need some professional help in these areas (or whatever areas an instructor deems necessary). I'm looking for some input on players who have taken lessons with instructors. I've seen in other threads that there is a very high success rate for players who are able to absorb and utilize the information that is given to them. Any recommendations and reviews of teachers you have spent time with?

For any instructors who may reply.. can you give me a general price range for the lessons you offer? The other big issue is distance. I live in west central Illinois and I don't really see any posts about anything at all in my area. How far will I need to travel to take lessons from you?

Thanks all!

Scott Lee lives in Michigan, but travels the country giving lessons. I think RandyG has a pool school up your way from time to time. You will spend less than the price of a nice custom cue...and get a lot more for your money.

All you have to do is sit in your easy chair and wait for Scott Lee to knock on your front door.

If you can get to Collinsville (about 170 miles) you can see Mark Wilson.

Both have tremendous knowledge and both are well worth the time and money.

You can also get a great lesson on CB control from Little Joe at Miller Time in Davenport, IA

I'd suggest that you take lessons from more than one instructor. One will see something the other didn't. One instructors style may sink in better than another. Each will have special knowledge of a certain aspects of the game.

Mark generally speaking has a 2 part lesson. Lesson 1 is strictly fundamentals. I never took the second lesson but I believe it's CB control aiming etc. Both are 4-5 hours.

It's my belief that if your analysis of your game is accurate, that you've hit a wall, the easiest/quickest way to break through is correcting some of the quirks you have (we all have something) in your fundamentals.

Lil Joe is getting a lot of great press here lately so that might be a real good idea... especially since he's so close to us. I strongly recommend Mark Wilson down in Collinsville. STRONGLY recommend!! :).

PN,
I've have been tremendously impressed with Mark Wilson's dedication to teaching, and love of the game. His establishment is in Collinsville, IL (right across the river from St. Louis) - making return visits fairly easy for you.

Here are reviews from 3 of my visits; there are pictures on the second page of the third link:

P.S. - Mark's website is www.playgreatpool.com
Don't try to contact him by e-mail, it's buggy....just call the establishment for info.
