Pool Magazines?

What's the best pool mag. going these days?
Inside Pool? or Billiard's Digest?

And why?

Billiards Digest remains the best because its coverage is comprehensive of the major pro, amateur, and international events in both men's and women's pool. Billiards Digest also includes solid features on the game's history, its emerging stars, and the issues the sport faces today. Add to that its fine instructional columns and the always entertaining column of George Fels, and Billiards Digest deserves to be considered the best.

Inside Pool wins the "most improved" award, and is developing into a nice magazine. To those at Inside Pool, I'd say "stay the course."

This "Who's the Best" question relating to the print media has come up in the past, and it is interesting to read the responses.

I think each magazine has a little something to offer everyone: amateur players, pool fans, pro players, enthusiasts, vendors, and professional organizations. The pool media plays a very important role in today's pool world, and it is nice to be able to read a variety of articles.

To say one is better than the other is a difficult choice (IMO). Personally, since I'm a tournament globe trotter, I enjoy InsidePOOL's coverage of tournaments. Pool is the number-one game played by Americans, the majority being social shooters, not pros, not Hall of Famers, and not roadsters.

At every single major event I attend, InsidePOOL is there providing coverage. At the InsidePOOL vendor booth, there is an abundance of free and complimentary issues, available to all, which is a real nice bonus.

In addition to InsidePOOL and Billiards Digest, Pool & Billiards Magazine has some interesting articles as well. I've got quite a few older issues of P&B mag in my pool library.

The National Billiard News has been around since the '60s. I recently acquired every single issue from 1975 to 1985 to assist me in a project I am working on. These pool mags, especially the ones from yesteryear, are a godsend, and provide a detailed description of the sport's history.

How lucky we all are in this small subculture to be able have more than one in the way of reading material! :)

I like Pool and Billiard and Billiard Digest about the same. I don't advertise in Inside Pool so they don't send me one, but I have looked at it a few times and rate it equal to the other big two. I like On the Wire okay also because it covers things the other don't. I used to save all the back issues of everything. One day I was down at the buring bin and found hundreds of my old pool magazines half burned. Me and my wife had a heated discussion about that one for sure. Now she just tosses them in the trash after a month or two. I am a pack rat. No telling what all those late 80's and early 90's complete sets of Billiards Digest, On the Snap, Pool and Billiard and American Cueist were worth.

Best magazine?

When I first started playing pool I subscribed to every pool publication. BD was my favorite at the time because it seemed to cover events well and had a lot of vendor advertisements. I too, am a pack rat and saved every issue for 10 years; even all of "On The Snap" issues.

My opinion - Inside Pool - by far. Billiard Digest is good, Pool and Billiard is way too many ad's. Inside Pool seems to be geared more towards the player, with instruction by McCready Matthews etc, and long articles on players. I think the article on Mataya was 5 or six pages this month. For the older players I think Inside pool is the best.

Just my opinion.
