Let's hear those storylines.
A pool hustler wins thousands playing a stiff who can't play and then blows it all on a stripper.
A pool hustler wins thousands playing a cowboy from Oklahoma who can't play and then blows it all on a stripper and craps.
A pool hustler wins thousands playing a poker player who can't play and then blows it all on strippers, craps and the ponies.
A pool hustler wins thousands from an oil tycoon who can't play and then blows it all on strippers, craps, the ponies and booze.
A pool hustler wins thousands from the CEO of a fortune 500 company who can't play and then blows it all on strippers, craps, the ponies, booze and drugs.
And so on and so forth...forever and a day in the life of so called big time pool players. There are thousands of hustlers who could be the real life inspiration for the part.
The pool players in the movie always end the same way...Broke! At least if it is based on a true story.
Cisero Murphy and Louis Lassiter. ..
This is an awesome idea...would have appeal outside the pool fanatics' world, too, especially if it splits the story between the two, culminating in their World Championship match with all the drama of race, reputation and mutual respect; lots of story here...
I still think a biopic on the rise and fall of Ralph Greenleaf would be Oscar-worthy territory. Maybe told through the eyes of a young Hal Houle...with flashbacks to the golden era...flappers, mink coats, high stakes, drugs/alcohol abuse, underworld stuff, etc. Titanic Thompson and other crazy characters can make appearances. Kind of like the Hustler, TCOM, and the Natural all meet up with Boardwalk Empire. It writes itself...I would cast Casey Afleck as Greenleaf.
Tin Cup movie style. Pool player.. down on his luck. Trying to clean up and sober up and lucks in to The US Open Pool Championship. First chance at redemption and getting clean.
I'm think Dustin Hoffman for the Lead and Elizabeth Mitchell as his lady love interest.
I like the ideas of Cisero Murphy and Kid Delicious. As far as fiction I would like to see a sequel of TCOM focusing on Amos, Forest Whitakers character, (great actor) mentoring a young player to become the greatest of all time. Lots of possibilities there.
