Pool Movie Idea(s)

Let's hear those storylines.

Pool Movie Idea(s)

Story from the viewpoint of a Sweater, riding on the coat tails of an aging hustler.
Call it "The Sweater"
Original, huh?
You would still have the pool room playing scenes but from a different perspective.
or
"Railbirds" The story of a down and out nobody's trying to ride the coat tails of pool hustlers.
or
"Shortstop" The struggles of a good but not great pool player.

New Tom Cruise Pool Movie

Tom could play the same character as in Color of Money but in the present time 2017.

The movie could show the decline of pool rooms, bowling alleys, drive-in's and western civilization into what it is present day.

A reflection of America and what it stood for once.

Sort of like the movie "Bar Fly". I loved it's upbeat look at life.

A hustlers daughter finds him because her mother fell in with the mob because of a bad boyfriend.. The hustler and daughter go on the road to earn the money that the mom owes.

A pool hustler wins thousands playing a stiff who can't play and then blows it all on a stripper.

A pool hustler wins thousands playing a cowboy from Oklahoma who can't play and then blows it all on a stripper and craps.

A pool hustler wins thousands playing a poker player who can't play and then blows it all on strippers, craps and the ponies.

A pool hustler wins thousands from an oil tycoon who can't play and then blows it all on strippers, craps, the ponies and booze.

A pool hustler wins thousands from the CEO of a fortune 500 company who can't play and then blows it all on strippers, craps, the ponies, booze and drugs.

And so on and so forth...forever and a day in the life of so called big time pool players. There are thousands of hustlers who could be the real life inspiration for the part.

The pool players in the movie always end the same way...Broke! At least if it is based on a true story.

Back in the early 90's I had repeatedly heard from different people that some production compnay had a bio-pic movie on Ralph Greenleaf already in the can.

What about Ginky's story? I didn't know him well, we had a mutual friend, but I always found him to be a gentleman and a class act. This same mutual friend was close with Joe Rogan so I would imagine Joe knew Ginky at least as well as I did. Joe would have the clout to move a project like that along. I'd suggest it to him (Joe Rogan) but we lost touch back before he made it big.

The Ewa Mataya-Lawrence story has possibilities as does the Jeanette Lee story.

I don't know the Steve Mizerak story, but my father-in-law tells me it's awesome.

Then there's the Walter Tevis version of the Color Of Money. I think those who actually read it would agree with me that it'd make an excellent movie.

For that matter, why not do a redux on The Hustler and follow it up with the Walter Tevis novel version of the Color Of Money? I'm thinking Brian Koppleman & David Levien do the project (after all, they did "Rounders") and sort of aim for the style in which Ocean's 11 was redone w/ Clooney & Pitt. -Z-

I just had this idea in another thread;

TCOM sequel with Tom Cruise's character transformed by the years into an Earl Strickland type. Redemption story with Vincent developing character and ending up on the Mosconi Cup team and leading the US to victory after a 10 year drought.

Bonus if there's a deleted scene on the DVD with Tom Cruise wearing a beekeeper outfit.

Kid Delicious

The Kid Delicious story as a movie had some interest during the height of his endeavors.

While buying some of his personal pool balls and stuff on e-bay his Mom e-mailed me and described the interest from Hollywood for a movie.

Cisero Murphy and Louis Lassiter. ..

This is an awesome idea...would have appeal outside the pool fanatics' world, too, especially if it splits the story between the two, culminating in their World Championship match with all the drama of race, reputation and mutual respect; lots of story here...

I still think a biopic on the rise and fall of Ralph Greenleaf would be Oscar-worthy territory. Maybe told through the eyes of a young Hal Houle...with flashbacks to the golden era...flappers, mink coats, high stakes, drugs/alcohol abuse, underworld stuff, etc. Titanic Thompson and other crazy characters can make appearances. Kind of like the Hustler, TCOM, and the Natural all meet up with Boardwalk Empire. It writes itself...I would cast Casey Afleck as Greenleaf.

Very good ideas on both.

TV series like Empire but as a period piece revolving around the world of pool hustlers and gin joints.
Sweaters, railbirds, easy marks, hustlers. Lots of room for characters.

Let's give it the Green Light!

Tin Cup movie style. Pool player.. down on his luck. Trying to clean up and sober up and lucks in to The US Open Pool Championship. First chance at redemption and getting clean.

I'm think Dustin Hoffman for the Lead and Elizabeth Mitchell as his lady love interest.

Opening scene, we see a cute waitress dropping off a plate of cheeseburger and fries to a hungry patron. Athena, you're the best! replies a hungry patron who resembles Mike DeChaine. The shot pulls back and we're at Steinway Billiards.

The place is bustling with over 200 players, and UpState Al brings Tony Robles into the booth and ask him about Ginky.

Scene now opens in the late 80's, Justin Bieber portrays a young Ginky walks into Chelsea Billiards...

Scene ends with his leaving Chelsea after getting his ass handed to him by young Frankie Hernandez, played by Frankie's real life son. Now we realize we're watching the long awaited George Ginky San Souci biography.

Other scenes,
Tom Cruise playing Vincent Lauria looks to Ginky as a potential road partner hands over his beloved Balabushka as an incentive. Ginky immediately takes it over to the Golden Cue where patron immediately identifies it as a Joss N7. Jack, a cop offers to run a check to see if it's stolen. Ginky returns the Joss N7, along with the book on Dianetic back to Vincent and thanks him for the offer.

I don't think it should take place in the present nor be a fiction story. Something along the lines of a Mizerak movie. Something similar to the 2013 race car movie Rush.

I like the ideas of Cisero Murphy and Kid Delicious. As far as fiction I would like to see a sequel of TCOM focusing on Amos, Forest Whitakers character, (great actor) mentoring a young player to become the greatest of all time. Lots of possibilities there.

Cast Tom in this though. Loses girlfriend, gets busted on the road. enter Your idea.

Move magic and a No. 1 hit!!!

I also heard that Hollywood was thinking of a weekly TV series based on the Kid Delicious Story back when he wrote his book. It's been a long time now.
