Pool Movies.

I hear a lot of people knocking several pool movies on this site.

I had gone to see PHJ when it came out, then when I went back to the pool hall I heard a lot of people knocking it. I've seen people knocking TCOM too.

I have to say, I think most will agree that the best pool movie ever was the Hustler, it's one of the few B&W movies that I enjoy.

However, I don't see anything wrong with either TCOM or PHJ. Sure there are things in them that just don't jive with the real world, the biggest probably being the way a supposed 13th ranked player pulls up on his shots and doesn't stroke right, but Walken's monoloque in PHJ has got to be one of the best I've ever heard and there are aspects of the game that are prtrayed in all three of the main movies that every player can relate to. The jump in pool that followed TCOM has got to say something for the movie.

I knew people who didn't play pool at all before PHJ came out that absolutely loved the movie.

This is just my two cents worth, feel free to chime in with whatever comments you want. Like I would have any control over your comments anyways, lol

I like all three, I havnt seen Stickmen or Shooting Gallery yet though. (They are on the XMAS list :))

My favorite has to be Color of Money. I really wish they would put out a Special Edition of it with behind the scenes stuff and a good commentary with Newman, Cruise and Scorsesi.

Hustler was great, but I am from a younger generation and it got a little slow between the pool action.

PHJ was decent too. Laughable in parts though... I agree with you on Walken's bathroom speech. That is classic!

I'll agree with that.

Yeah the hustler is a little slow at parts, but I think it's the best MOVIE that is based around pool. I'm talking, acting, direction, story line the whole package.

For straight pool playing, I'd agree that I like TCOM best.

I'm still waiting for someone to make a tv series, even a reality based show on pool though.

So far I have liked every pool movie I have watched...to include Hustler, TCOM, PHJ and yes...even Stickmen. It was a comedy really, with pool thrown in. Not to mention it had two hot babes in it!

As far as pool movies, my favorite is still TCOM. I know, I know...not the tops on most people's list...but from a gambling standpoint and acting standpoint, I think it was better than the Hustler. I just simply loved the ending of how Fast Eddie said..."I'm back!"

What about ...

Are there any foreign made films about Pool or Snooker?
Nobody has really mentioned any film made elsewhere
about Pool. (except the Australian one).

I don't know about foreign films?

The one I'm trying to get a copy of so I can see it is "Running Out" it's a low budget made by Eric Niemi. From what I understand it's a real tear jerker.

I used to know Eric, not a bad pool player. But I've tried to get in touch with him with little luck. oh well.
