Lets not forget about an absolutely horrible movie with Whoopie Goldberg called Kiss Shot, or a slightly better one that I think takes place in Australia or maybe England, or maybe they just had accents. This was about an underground tournament, it was called Stickmen
I saw a few minutes of the movie The Public Enemy with James Cagney this morning . The beginning of the movie showed a guy named "Putty Nose" with a cue in his hand .
A while later he is shooting balls while double dealing Cagney and his partner.

LOL, great movie, one of the best ever. They shot putty nose while he was playing the piano for them, also the scene of Cagney smashing the grape fruit in the girls face !
Great gangster movies back then, Public Enemy, Little Caesar, Scarface, Angels with Dirty Faces, Dead End, Roaring Twenties, i can go on and on.
All this fantastic stuff they made back then and look at the crap they put out now, unreal.

I looked for "Chalk" on IMDB and I guess it's the movie from 1996. It has no info other than cast. There is a lot more info in the reviews, some of which seem to have been done by the production company. Here is Roger Ebert's take: http://www.rogerebert.com/reviews/chalk-2000
Interesting review. Thanks for the link. I thought I was the only person who actually liked that film.
Ebert speaks of the pro player's "painful" request made to prepare for his match. I found that scene too bazar to make any sense; but the gamble portrayed in the film felt real. Somebody wins and somebody goes bust...hollywood seldom shares the darker side of losing. The rail birds sketch out strategy on a lap top chalk board...tru old school. But the "Man From Rio" twist keeps it realer than real in the end.
By my latest count, there are 45 pool movies, 13 pool “shorts” (less than 30 minutes), 3 pool movies in production, and at least 19 TV shows or TV episodes about pool. I am reviewing them, one by one, on my blog "8 Ball on the Silver Screen." See my latest post on "Wandering Ginza Butterfly," a pool movie that is often omitted from these lists. And, if you're a fan of 70's-ploitation films, you should enjoy this one. It's got some wonderful three-cushion billiards in it.
In Japan, there's show where famous people compete in various sports and activities to determine who's the best at what in the Japanese celebrity world.
This is the episode where they had some famous actors and comedians doing a trick shot competition.
I'm not a big trick shot fan, but it was fun to watch.

I think something like this could draw viewers across the pond as well, if you bring together some the best pool-playing celebrities, and maybe with some pros as coaches or even holding a pro-am style doubles tournament. You could call it "Shooting with the Stars".

Couldn't understand a word anyone said, but by the reactions from the announcers, I'd bet "I double dog dare ya" was used once or twice
