Pool on tv

I'm not in the know, but from what I can tell the handful of tournaments that were regularly televised has ceased to exist (BCA Championships). The UPA isn't holding tournaments from what I can tell and they were getting television contracts.

Furthermore, I have theory that with the abundance of live streams and the ever improving quality of said medium, tournaments have opted to go that route instead.

In Canada Rogers Sportsnet used to air nine 2 hr highlight packages of the World Pool championships. But when Matchroom Sport opted not to renew the contract (because the name was changed to the world 9 ball championships) that was the end of our awesomeness. We still get other matchroom events like the World Cup of Pool, Mosconi Cup and the US Open from accu-stats. But as far as American tournaments are concerned it's pretty much dried up.

And somewhere along the line broadcasters decided that instead of paying fore the rights, they would charge for the exposure. But you can't get blood out of a stone.

Maybe Allison has become too old to attract the perverts. The general public doesn't understand pool, and they can't see the numbered balls on the screen. The announcers suck, and we don't have "personalities" allowed to bark during a match. Put the mikes on 'em and let 'em entertain.

So the audience tunes to poker, which the audience can easily understand and it's flat-out more entertaining to watch than pool. That's how painful the broadcasts are. Why doesn't pool have a "bad guy" like Mike Matusow? Or a good old-timer who would rival Doyle Brunson?

Because the producers of the programs don't know what they're doing.

Turn Norman Chad loose on the pool scene and he'd spark some interest, maybe. Alan and Dawn do their best, but they're too respectful and too boring. And finally, let them gamble for their own money -- al a Poker After Dark. Put the cash on the light and break the balls!

That's my diagnosis, and recipe for improvememnt.

Forgive me if this has been posted, elsewhere. What has happened to pool on tv? ...JER

reality TV and poker seemed to replace it. Thank goodness for the guys who stream it, so we have it on our computers. thats the place to watch pool and no commercials to speak of.
