Kinda unrelated but I came across this thread:A pool player strives to win even when playing novices and beginners.
Pool players take no prisoners.
Pool players put the game above the social aspect of the game when it comes to leagues, etc.
Pool players can have just as much fun playing as anyone else.
I enjoy teaching people things, but when we are "playing" it is not a teaching session.
Those are separate sessions where the focus is on the person being taught.
That reminds me of Cornbread Red. I was at a bowling alley back in the day that was my usual place to play because it was the only place that had 9ft gold crowns at the time. Red comes in and comes over and we start shooting a few and talking. He was like is there anyone in here that plays for money. I was no not really. He was i dont care if its 5 or 10 a game but im not going to play for free. After scoping out the room, he sees one of my friends on the other table. He was the best player in the room at the time. He said what about the big guy over there he shoots pretty good and he is shooting with an expensive cue. I said Chris, yeah he shoots pretty good but he wont play for money. Red hollers out "Wont play for money what the hell, why the hell is he even shootin pool. Don't play for money and has a cue like that is like buying a car but dont have a license to drive. Miss ol Red never be another one like him. They can be one and the same. I truly love playing, the beauty of the game is immeasurable, but I won’t play for free.
Ahhhhh, truthfully, they’re being taught in both situations. It’s just a different lesson. Those are separate sessions where the focus is on the person being taught.
