Pool Players Testify before Senate Appropriations Committee

Pool: Sport or Not

JAM said:
This just in. Today marks a milestone in the history of pocket billiards. Pool players will bravely trot before the Senate Appropriations Committee on Capitol Hill at noon. One by one, they are going to testify about the travesties in today's pool world. The agenda item is entitled: "Is it a game, or is it a sport?"

APRIL FOOLS DAY! :D
JAM

OK OK -

You got me good on this one.

Darn am I gullible or what?

Should have known not to get on the forum on April FOOLS day or before my first cup of Javalero ! !

I think it depends on who is playing at the time

A couple of kids banging balls around are playing a game.

When I play I don't think it falls into either category. I suffer to much to call it a game, and I really don't think of it much of a sport. Maybe if someone is badly out of shape that walking around the table is exercise it is a sport for them.

When a top player plays I think it might be elevated to an art.
thorsten comes to mind.

na , it is probably just a game. Wanna play?

See, now this April fools post had a touch of class. It was smart, funny, and at nobody's expense. Good job Jam.

i have an explanation.............

sit 5 players down at a poker table............lets say they are the equilavant in the poker world as the average joe shmoe "D" pool player.

well when they are playing poker, they just deal the cards, make bets, and show the cards...........they don't know how good they are at poker, to themselves they seem like every other card player.

now take the same 5 players and let them play pool.............well it will be apparent within about 3 shots that they can't play pool very well.

The same can be said of race-car drivers, those who understand racing can tell the wanna-bees (rolling hazards) from the going-to-bees in about 3 corners.

I like the basics of the argument:: skill versus luck.

However, there are those who take the position that it is not a sport unless something can get killed. Thus shooting and racing are sports, poker is not.
