Pool, poker, and pain mocked on espn

Just saw on ESPN the beat and they brought up Blair's idea, and then basically demeaned it. Had a poll where the comparable three sports was skiing, connect four, and jousting. I think that was the third. What a joke....Looks like it may have been an ambush. I'm sure Blair couldn't have been pleased by the public mockery. Although, it did get mentioned on "The Mothership."

I'm not surprised they mocked it. Pool poker and pain are all unrelated and really have no business being thrown together. It's a fun prop bet between a couple of guys in your local room maybe, but it shouldn't be given serious consideration as the next evolution for pool.

I have heard that Blair has put a lot of effort into this venture, and I am not trying to demean his efforts. If it is successful, then I am wrong. However, from where I stand, I don't see a lot of people getting excited about it.

I've been saying that all along. I don't mean to sound like a hater, it just doesnt add up to me.

I watched it, and my low opinion of ESPN dropped even lower. That show is an absolute waste of time and bandwidth. It's like watching two old ladies gossiping. They have nothing to say that really is worth listening to, yet they get air time.??
Compared to some of the other tripe on television, are you really surprised?

Cleary is heading into an interesting direction with his parody character "big tony".

Pool experienced a giant economical boost from The Color of Money. Without a pol reality series, or a sequel to COM (with Vincent as the teacher LOL) it looks as if pool is heading towards extinction. Bowling alleys and pool halls coast to coast are closing their doors everyday. The economy just doesn't allow people to waste their hard earned dollars to bang balls, or roll them down an alley. People are all spending extra money now to further their education...plus who really wants to teach their child pool anymore? Nobody with any sense would introduce their child to a poolroom in this economy. Therefore the sport is seeing no growth. Golf was always an expanding industry, and it too actually showed a decline for the first time EVER in 2008. Pool halls and bowling alleys started their rapid decline in 2005.

Facts are facts, and if possible, distance yourself from this industry if you are in it for money....

the Billiard Industry is pulling in almost half a billion dollars a year just in America..

Most Bars have a pool table.. and this country has A LOT of Bars..

Half of those sponsor at least 1 league team..

League Players are everywhere...and they spend money and lots of folks are cashing in on it..

the economy is down so everything is down a little bit..

Pool's not going away...

people are making fun of pool poker and pain simply because it's a stupid f'kin Idea..

I know it happens, but I do not know of one bar/pool hall that sponsors a pool league team, besides a few shirts.

I have heard of bars doing much more, but I have not experienced it firsthand.

Btw, I was taught to not say anything, if you don't have anything nice to say....so I will not comment on pool, poker, and pain.

I was actually going to mention moving south. What does the bar do for the teams? Also, does it matter how good your team is? If not, maybe we have a shot at a sponsorship.

Thanks, but I don't need your tissues. Was just stating a few facts. I think I made that pretty clear. I'm also pretty sure that that was unnecessary.

Last time I checked forums are for opinions. Almost every industry has suffered decline in this economy, I know. Recreation/hobby sports have been hit harder. golf, bowling, billiards, etc...

I wasn't saying there is ZERO "collective" money in the entire pool industry. Just that the sport is in sharp decline and NEEDS a jumpstart to slow the decline, or even stop it.

Thanks for your attempt at humor. Don't be mad that the Twins can't win a playoff game. LOL

if you can get 5 people together you can field a team.. (though the deadline is past for this year..

some do more than others.. from a free round of drinks every night for all teams on the low end.. to complete fees paid, free shirts, ect.. for the better more established teams..

it runs the full gamut.

here is a list of the leagues with 8-10 teams per league

ESPN sucks, i'll spare everyone here my long list of reasons.

I am on Blairs team 24/7 and awalys wish him the best,

Gotta love pure honesty.....and I agree with you.

Pool Poker and Pain? WTF lets just get rid of the poker and pool and just beat the sh*t out of each other for the cash while we are at it.

Its a stupid idea not b/c it isn't possible that it would bring in money.....its stupid b/c its RETARTED and only makes pool look even less dignified....it makes a mockery of things.

It would be the worse for pool than Infant Sorrows "African Child" was for Africa (go to link to understand)

I think this show could make it with a few small changes. Just need to get rid of the pool part, and seperate the poker and pain. That should about do it. Now the general public might actually watch it.
