Straight pool is my best game. I was a 100 ball runner when being 16.

I do have a plan for the very best pool room in the country that would make the investors millions no matter if the pool room made it or not.

A strip mall,, a mini mall.. Purchasing the land and developing that land into a set of mini malls. Pre qualifing tenents before submittiing plan. Targeting tennents like UPS/fedex/USPS,,, etc etc etc... Build to suit.. I have that experience. I was a project super and worked for large land developers..

Anyway Purchase/develope/build/lease out retail/offiice space in a marketed researched project in an area that has a past proven positive growth of a projected percentage set by the marketed research team.

Get commited tennents before plans are submitted. Build to suit.

Build the best pool room in the country.. Thats a plan that if completed within budget would be basically a fool proof way or making 10's of milliions in equity growth and future wealth all while housiing the country's best pool room. Too much to write about.

This is simply a real estate development concept, nothing new or special about it, and really unrelated to pool. A few have done this quite succesfully before you were even born methinks. I do like the way that the other developments would subsidize the pool hall.

Dave, from Saskatoon, home of Pacific Ave Billiards, a real pool hall.

PS why for you post so many consecutive replys ? There wasn't that much to say.

I'm a an owner of a successful pool room.
I am also a pool enthusiast. I love this game and have played it for many years and still play in leagues and tournaments on occasion. I try and maintain the best equipment and conditions for playing. but...

I can not make a living off serious pool players!

Sorry but this is just a plain fact. I used to play and run tournaments in my establishment and other establishments before I owned this room and unfortunately, serious pool players are cheap. They often complained about the rates and didn't spend any money. Worst of all, they would try and hustle the others that did spend so those people stopped coming back. The problem isn't the establishments but the attitudes of too many players who want perfect conditions but don't want to pay for it.

p.s. Rent is based on location. You can get away with cheaper rent but only a few will go to your room if it's in a bad area or too far(more expense).

> The "pool room" where I live is an old-timer's room. A place where guys go to hide from their wives, stand around and make the same jokes every day, often while standing in the same spot. There are probably 40 people that go in there every single day and have yet to hit a ball this YEAR. People come in to play pool, like me,and have to wait until the 2nd of 4 tables opens up,because there are too many chairs laying around from the Hold-Em game the night before, and you are NOT allowed to uncover the back 2 tables because that is where the card games go on. The owner, has decided in his mind-boggling wisdom to start charging people 2.00 an hour to play dominos or tonk, while 20 others sit around and spit in the floor, thump cigarette butts across the room, etc. Yet I get looked at funny for bringing my own rack into the room, and leaving it,because the racks they provide are so worn you cannot possibly freeze the balls. I complain about the balls being dirty, chipped, cloth being 3 years old,and all I get is the old "we're just a old poo' room,no one around here is good enough to know the difference". The room owner turned me down 8 different times when I offered to have a table tightened, recovered in Simonis, and have the slate seams fixed ON MY OWN DIME,just so I didn't have to drive 2 hours to go play on a Gold Crown every day. He said that the rubber backed Astroturf he has been buying for 30 years is "good enough",and that if I had a table recovered like I wanted it,that it would give me free rein to jump balls, break "all crazy",and a bunch of other excuses. I can see why they have the Hold-Em games, and charge the old men to play cards and stuff, because NO ONE but me cares about the game here, and you can't have a bunch of people doing nothing in there all day. It just sucks to live in such an unsophisticated area for pool,Jimmy Reid told me that as far as he was concerned,it was nothing short of a miracle that I even learned to play here. I will eventually kidnap several strong players, and transplant them here, and hold a millionaire hostage and make him open a decent room. Tommy D.

Here in the KC area, there is one true pool hall left (if you're familiar with KC you know the name, however I will leave it anonymous in this post). This place used to be an action place, it had matches that lasted days when it was open 24/7. It has 8 GC's a 5x10 and a Verhoeven Billiard table. Unfortunately, today the equipment is below par, the balls are old, chipped, and dirty, the felt is worn out on 80% of the tables ( Billiard and 5x10 are still in good playing condition) and the owner wonders why everyone is "gone".
This place which once had more sharks than the atlantic is now catering to C & D players. I would love to see this place get the tables and equipment back to "players" conditions. If they would do this I believe the players would come back, I know I would (not that I am a player or anything).
On the other extreme a friend and I went to a new Sidepockets in Blue Springs Mo. on Friday. It was jam packed 10 GC's and a a ton of Bar boxes.
The music was louder than a Ted Nugent Concert (loudest concert I had ever been to) and "Player courtesy" of patrons and servers was non existant.
I will not be returning there. I seriously left with one of the worst headaches I have ever had in my life.
Currently, the best places for action in KC right now are Side Pockets North (NKC) and Shooters in Olathe (Now that Dan Tull is back this establishments reputation is and will be restored).
I currently play at Side Pockets in Lee's Summit, if you're ever in town go to the counter by the GC's and ask where Scott is they should point ya towards the GC's.
