Pool school

The who, what, why, where and when of pool school. First a little back ground about my playing history. I took lessons from Bert Kinister about 20 years ago. I was playing the best pool of my life. The pressures of life forced me to scale my pool playing down, I put my dreams on hold. I stopped playing tournaments and I stopped hanging out at the pool halls and just slipped into an average player. There is where I stayed for far too long. Over those years I purchased every book and video and DVD that was out on the market. I took out the bits and pieces that seemed to work.
A year and a half ago I decided that I was going to become the best player that I could be. I started with having Lasik eye surgery. It worked great, my vision improved my playing by leaps and bounds. The next step was to find a table for my house. After that it was just wood shedding. I practiced for hours and my game rose to a new level.
I was shooting fine but I was still missing balls. And I don’t mean low percentage shots, but Im talking about basic, very easy shots. I was very inconsistent. I could run a few racks but I could not do it consistently. I had done everything that I knew and I was still not shooting the way I wanted.
Making the decision to find out what my problem was, I began to research all types of trainers and schools. I was determined to find that magic pill that would make me a top player in my area. And this is what bought me to pool school. I talked to a ton of people and I decided on Randy Goettlicher and his Pool School in Dallas TX. Ill explain why later
Now flash forward to 6pm last Friday night and imagine what it felt like to find out that all the books and tapes and countless hours of practicing and drills, all the aiming systems in the world had done me no good. That’s right, over 20 years of searching for the information to make me a better player had been completely useless. Now thats not to say all the information was bad but they are all missing probably the most important step to improvement. EYES. Not one book could see me shot and tell me what I was doing wrong. The dvd never once seen my elbow dropping. I had spent thousands of dollars on those books and videos and they never realy helped me get to the level of play that I desired.
After the first 8 hours of class with “Randy G” I was realizing that I would have to start all over. Take everything I knew about pool and put it out of my head. Now I know I might be a bit long winded but this weekend was a life changing experience. I paid $700 for the class but if Randy would have asked me for another $700 on Sunday when I left, I would have gladly given it to him.
If you ever wanted to truly be the best pool player that you can be than you need to be observed by someone who knows where you are hurting yourself. Randy knows just what causes bad things to happen in our pool games and he can show you how to fix it. In school I was given the diagnostic tools to trouble shoot my game. I was also given the procedure, or steps to become the best player I can be.
Now its Monday and after spending over $1000 with all expenses, I am unable to pocket more that 3 balls in a row. Now before you nay sayers start doing your fist pumps, its because I have now made the changes that will take me to the next level. These corrections are going to overtake my years of bad mechanics and miss information. Its going to take some time but there will be no turning back.
I had really done my research and I was a wear of Randys experience with pro players. Im not going to drop any names but the list reads like a Hall of famers and soon to be Hall of Famers list of whos who. I must admit that I went searching for that magic pill, but I came back with, not a pill, but with a bucket full of gold nuggets (wink, wink) along with a whole new love and respect for our sport.
If anyone is still reading at this point, my objective in this thread was not to make a infomercial about pool school , but to share my experience with the pool playing community. If you ever get the chance to meet Randy G, you better jump on it. He is one in a million. And now it’s time for the shameless plug. If you have the means, and the desire to be the best player you can be, give Randy a call. I waited three months to get in and I’ve already signed up for the advanced class in June. Im on the road to success- scratch that- im on the road to kicking some major ass, don’t be one of them.

Thanks for listening

Pool School is a collection of concise, easy to understand articles designed for the average pool owner. The articles have been carefully written and arranged to take you through a natural progression of pool care topics.

I am a student and proud of it. It has been 5 years since i went and now i have almost earned monster statis. The name pool school sounds so basic so simple. Im telling you guys a trip to dallas is the equivalent to climbing a mountain to find the meaning of life. This guy randy g is the master of instructors i destroy players i use to sweat. If you want to get better and have an open mind to learn. This is the juice. I want to tell all the pros who make videos no offence but u guys should take randys class you will have a better understanding on how to teach pool. I see it all the time on pool videos vague explanations and general descriptions to explain what randy dose in detail. And I can also tell if a instructor has had randy training direct or indirectly and those instructors have added even more to my arsenal. Best investment i don't care if you a pro or not or a instructor already this guy is yoda. Imo

I'm curious as to what this man teaches since he gets such high praise.

The most praiseworthy man in my eyes is Billy Incardona. Through his precise instruction in his accu-stats commentary, and his elaborate work on onepocket.org, he has given anyone who wants it a lifetime of valuable information.

And I do not want to leave out Freddy The Beard, he has given an equal amount of instruction on onepocket.org, all for free. And he has given valuable commentary on bank pool via accu-stats.

And I might as well keep going with Danny Diliberto and Grady, Buddy Hall, and Nick Varner.

If you have honestly listened to every advice that these players have given, you probably have everything you need. Then it's just up to you to fill in the practice requirements.

i know powerful statement I made. I agree that they are awsome and billy an danny have taught me alot lord knows i owe my one pocket game to them. But if i had not had prior instruction their instruction would have been seriously limited. What i learned at pool school is simple i learned to calculate, visualize, execute and evaluate. And much more. I feel like i am not intelligent enough to explain what this guy teached to this day i have randy moments, where i am practicing or reading a pool book and something he said clicks in my head. This guy says things listen . He is way ahead of the curve no bs.

I'm curious as to what u get from pool school that u don't get from a one on one with Scott or Randy.

I have not been to Pool School but I would expect one on one is the same just focused on you. Randy would have to post if there is a difference. I had a Scott Lee lesson and thought it was great and definitely helped me bring up my game. I would go to pool school just to add to my game if time and location ever allows.

High quality training is a good value if you want to improve.

I had a lesson with Scott and it has helped I just gotta make sure I practice the mother drills when my new table gets done.

Randy meant to tell you Sunday to ship that other 700 to me lol

one on one,,,,, EYES

I'm curious as to what u get from pool school that u don't get from a one on one with Scott or Randy.

First let me say the best way to get a hold of Randy is to call him direct,
(214)908-2908 He will answer any questions.

second of all, what you get from pool school is what you need. I know that sound simple but after evaluating you stroke with video analysis he then breaks it down for you. He will give you the things you are missing and fix the things that are broke. pool school is 24 hours of book work , brain work, and soul searching.

Mr.Banks,

I'm curious as to what this man teaches since he gets such high praise.

The most praiseworthy man in my eyes is Billy Incardona. Through his precise instruction in his accu-stats commentary, and his elaborate work on onepocket.org, he has given anyone who wants it a lifetime of valuable information.

You don't even know what you don't know. Im sure all your training from all those greats was great and worth every penny. What type of direct instruction have you received from those men. Oh ya, two of those men have worked with Randy.

Pool school is Golf on a Pool table with four players that know what they are doing...one game could last several hours... Two players pretty quick. Three player Golf...middle of the road. Four player Golf...it bruises your brain...it's worse than chess...need a nap.

My main concern is to take bits of advice from people that have a deep knowledge of the game.

When Billy tells me that this shot or that shot is best, I know he is right. He is probably the most knowledgable one pocket player in the world today. And I take what he says seriously.

When Freddy or John tell me something about banks, I take it very seriously. They are the most knowledgable bank pool players in the world.

Am I sure that Randy would advise the same shot as these men? And that's nothing against Randy, it's the same question I have with anyone.

But I will watch how Earl plays a certain shot. And then I will watch Souquet shoot it the same way. And then I will see Bustamante shoot it the same way. And then I know that is the best way to play the shot. And then I know that I've learned something valuable.

go back to sleep

Go back under you pool table and go to sleep. You still never answer my question. Have you ever spoken to any of those great players. Have they given you direct instruction for your game? Please let us know.

Why do you address me in that manner?

Why do you address me in that manner?

Because you never answer a question.

And you derail every thread you participate in.

Which gives you tremendous satisfaction, I know. I also know I should stop responding to you....if all of us did tbat, you might eventually lose your entertainment and stop this foolishness.

For what its worth, I second your review J-Flo. I attended one of Randy's schools and he is an excellent teacher who communicates well and contributed much to my thinking.
